I know I am not the only one out there with phenominally bad luck and not just in the dice department but luck of the cards and luck of the game elements themselves. Sometimes I handle it well sometimes I get frustrated to the point of throwing dice (so far only once) and sometimes I just have to laugh it off.

Sad to say my son has inherited my bad luck and he handles it about as well also. This list will give you a few examples and feel free to add your own.

I rarely get to play this with another player but this Saturday my nephew stopped by and we played a game. He seemed to love the game, to quote him "This blows Talisman out of the water". I think the fact that he blew me out of the water didn't hurt.

He quickly satrted building himself up and was certainly ready to take on tougher challenges than I was but I wasn't far behind.

Then came the hammer. My charcter has a total of four hits and I have taken one, I'm heading over to the yellow challenges that I am able to take on. Not being able to make it to them I stop in Tamilalir and take a market action. I have seven gold and I am down 1 hit point but rather than heal I spend all sevn gold On a card that I can exahst before moving to heal a hit point. Good card, next turn before I move, I'll have all of my hit points. EXCEPT my nephew draws an event card that destroys Tamalir doing 3 damage to any one in Tamalir and sending them to Forge.

Well! Let's see how many hit points do I have? HMMMM! seems to be exactly 3. So now I am knocked out and lose the great card worth 7 freaking gold before I can even use it. What are the chances of me being in Tamalir when the stupid card was drawn? What are the chances I didn't heal in town because I'd rather spend my money on a card? I have to remind myself it's me and cosmic forces are indeed against me and I shouldn't be surprised.

It went downhill from there, I had a hard time getting back over to where the yellow challenges were so I decided (Unwisely) to risk a blue. He was so far ahead I couldn't see taking the time to run to a yellow (which looked like it might take 2 or 3 turns to get to) when a blue was right at hand. I was of course knocked out and lost my best weapon.

Meanwhile my nephew draws an event that doubles all prices in the markets, which seemed to remain for most of the rest of the game. Not so troublesome for him as he has a ton of good weapons. As luck would have it I finally saved for a decent weapon at double the price and as soon as I purchase it He draws an event cancelling the double price event and I am not joking. The very next draw.

Cosmic forces are not only against me, they are laughing at me.

About a month ago I had one of my best friends over to play some Memoir 44. They were 4 of the worst losses I have ever suffered at this game. The first 3 games I couldn't get decent cards to save my life and the last game even though I got decent cards The dice just seem to avoid anything I shot at. I really had a tough time maintaining my cool, I was this close to throwing the dice but it didn't get to that. But man was I whining.

I really like Memoir but I have some of the worst luck. The first time I introduced it to my daughters boyfriend I had the same kind of luck. All my pieces are on the right side of the board and I'm drawing left. I get frustrated and I show people my cards when it happens. "LOOK AT THIS, I CAN'T DO A FREAKING THING"! We flipped sides and the same thing happened.

We had a game night where we split into groups of 2 to play Memoir and I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Dice consistantly fail me as cosmic forces control them.

Now as luck would have it the cosmic forces took the tip of my finger this last week. This is a double edged sword as it cut the finger allowing me time off to suffer at thier hands as I was able to play more games in a week than I do in a whole month. Cosmic forces are evil.

My nephew shows up on a thursday for a full day of gaming. I suggest the Doom expansion and a quick player vs. player frag fest. (He owns the game but has never had the oppotunity to play the expansion.

I lost but it was fairly close 3 frags to 2 but still my shotgun was only one square away and I couldn't get the range, the game could have been mine, I had a good chance but the cosmic forces like to play with me by getting my hopes up.

Moving on to Formula D. My nephew has never played so why not. I got a bad start but quickly over took him and then the cosmic forces slapped me I kept getting rolls that would just stop short of the turn or the highest rolls I could get to over shoot the turns. I'd shift up coming out of the turns and get the lowest rolls you can get. Tires spent, fuel gone I need a pitstop which my nephew has blocked me from entering. So I chug on by without my pitstop and make it half way around the lap before I blow up.

The second game went much like the first.

For Newbies to the game, a piece of advice. Look at the pitstop and take a color car that matches the first pit. You will never be blocked and thus you can outwit the cosmic forces.

P.S. It's not blue

Next came a game I really enjoy. It's quick and simple but the toy factor is huge and I love trying to out guess my opponents manuevers.
It started out good for my nephew and he was getting the upper hand but he played a port card when he meant to play a starboard card. Being the good sport I am I let him play the card he wanted. He still had the upper hand when he did it again. Since I was losing at this point and I had already allowed him one gaff I made him stick with what he played bringing all my guns to bear on him.

He was having lousy cannon shots and so was I but that last play gave him hull damage plus he had already lost a mast. I had just hull damage and was more manueverable and I probably shoud have just taken my time and tried to sink his ship but the game IS called Broadsides and BOARDING parties so I decided to ram his ship.

The cosmic forces made me do it because they new that even though I outnumbered him he would take out a few with his final volley and I would miss and they also knew that I would never be able to out roll him in hand to hand and so would lose.

The cosmic forces were right. I hate them.

I don't want to talk about it. Let's just say my nephew has a uncanny knack for rolling sixes and not jamming and I have the opposite luck.
To be fair, this one He had better strategy than I even though his dice rolled better than mine, I deserved to lose these 2 games.

My only defense is that the cosmic forces had messed with me so much I couldn't think straight. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

by now my son has joined us and we are waiting for one more person to play The Fury of Dracula. While we are waiting we decide to play Through the desert. I WON! What the heck happened there? Maybe it's because there are no dice or cards to screw you over that the cosmic forces were stymied.

TAKE THAT! You evil cosmic forces. Then came the revenge.

We had a fairly new player in this group and he was not very experienced at all. I don't think he will mind my using his name which is Shawn. I was playing Dracula and as every one seemed to be either centrally located or in the west I placed myself in the east. I'm not going to get out the game and tell you what cities I was in or went to.
It didn't take my nephew long to get on my trail with Lord Godalming who had a dog giving him a plus 2 for initiative with my szganys That and his uncanny die rolls were chewing up the 4 I had planted so far so drac wisely took to sea. Planting a vamp in the lowest south island I recieved a card that allowed me to discard all of a hunters weapons when they enter a port or cross the east, west boundary. I went to sea, Shawn entered a port I played the card and then attacked him next turn, killing him.
This was still very early in the game and my son chided me for killing a new player so early and I felt bad also. I did not know I would kill him my hope was to possibly do a bit of damage on him and he would escape. Any way, we decided to let him continue in the game and place his character in any city and as a bonus I could plant a vamp anywhere I liked.
More than likely the game would have been mine from there but as it turned out I lost a major defeat. Partly my fault as they played a card that made me tell where I was and I blurt out "I'M IN ROME...WAIT NO I'M NOT ( I had just remembered I had a card to cancel their card but unfortunatly I have to big a mouth and the cat was out of the bag.
I forgot what card I did eventually cancel but it wasn't the Jonathan Harker card Who managed to throw Holy water in my face as I tried to bite him doing 4 points of damage I am now down to 3 blood points (I have made a lot of sea moves at this point plus some idiotic merchants threw my coffin in the sea making me lose a few more). I figure I better run. At this point in the game the hunters know where I am and are headed for me. BUT wait! Whats this? the Hunters draw a card that let's drac instantly teleport to any place on the map. Yes! Yes! Inside I'm gloating. "HAH! I pulled it off, Dracula has once again slipped through their fingers

My son is ranting WHAT? OH! You have got to be kidding me, we'll never find him. They were all headed to the British Isles as that's where I was again. But Poof! Now I'm over by castle Dracula planting another vamp and sticking close to the sea line in case I have to make a hasty retreat but I figure I got time when A FREAKING CARD MAKES ME SAY WHERE I AM AND WHAT MY NEXT MOVE IS! AAAGGGHHHH! In no time at all my nephew ( who can't seem to miss a freaking train) is on my trail again.
I escape to sea but have to tell when I'm making a sea move, they play a storm that makes me come back to port. GREAT! FREAKING GREAT! FINE! Now my plan is to just attack my nephew and take my chances when WHAM! Miss your next turn. So I can't attack, he attacks me with a freaking heroic leap and rolls a.... yup! a 6. 12 freaking points game over

Cosmic Forces sides are hurting!

I'm not going to talk about luck of the dice in this game let's just say my 3 red dice always out roll my 12 black - go figure.

But a final thought on cosmic forces. Does any body else suffer from consistant low die rolls? My son and I are notorious in our group and are often the butt of jokes because of it. AND do you have guys that just are magic with the dice? We have a guy, other than one bad game of Formula D always rolls high, I don't get it. He rolled for my monsters in "The World Of Warcraft The Adventure Game" and almost always rolled a freaking sword, quite frustrating I gotta tell ya.

Also, even though my son and I roll bad I almost always out roll him and our new guy, Shawn. He was rolling low all night and when he had to roll against me he lost. I can just tell that that is going to be consistant. Does anybody else have these wierd anomallies in their gaming group?

The only explanation I can offer is there are cosmic forces at work and I don't know about anybody else but I at least I had better learn to love to lose....and so had Shawn.
