My wife is very particular about the games that she invests her time in. We both roleplay together, but that is Outside the Scope of BGG. We do play a number of games together, but finding the ones that she will really love is the challange of this geeklist.

I know of four games that she loves (we only own three of them), and I'll list those in the first four spots below. But I already know about those. What I want from the collective minds here at BGG are more suggestions for games that she will adore once she tries them.

Here are the criteria which I believe are necessary:
1. The game must have some humor to it, whether the whole game is a laugh-fest, or merely an element of the game uses wry wit.
2. The game must have a theme; her favorite themes are:
2.1. Cthulhu/Lovecraftian mythos,
2.2. The old west and gunfighting,
2.3. Musketeers and swashbuckling (including pirates arrrh ).
3. The game should have some artistic merit (even if that is merely a well-drawn cartoon in the rulebook goo ).

And now, the list.

We had played other peoples' Munchkin before, but my wife was pretty unimpressed with all of the sets before this one came out. Munchkin Bites has the humor of the rest of the Munchkin series, but it is directed at the World of Darkness rpgs of which we are familiar and which deserve a good measure of ridicule.

She does not seem to be terribly eager to shuffle it together with other decks in the series to make combined Munchkin games. I am not sure why. (Parenthetically, I don't think she has sampled Muchkin-thulhu yet.)

This is my darling wife's favorite card game right now. It has the fabulous art which first attracted her attention, and it also has the thematic and very funny flavor text on the cards.

Our friend Ambug introduced us to this charming little game last year, and she liked it enough to buy it as soon as she spotted it in the FLGS. For those of you who don't know it, it has the little sculpted Cthulhus for pieces, as well as mythos-related drawings on the cards. It also has the very witty mechanic of using insanity to spell words that don't exist for sane people.

We should probably play this one more.

My wife was amused enough by the title of this game to try it out while we were at GenCon 2007. She found it funny and charming. It is a vicious parody of Candyland in which the player-controlled gingerbread men can rip pieces off of each other and canibalize their foes.
This one, we don't own.

This one requires a bit of a group to shine but there is lots of laughter and it's quite light like your other selections.

Although the theme is fantasy, it is very well implemented. The card art is gorgeous (from the game designer's own hand no less), and there is a vein of humour that runs through many of the cards, although it is unobtrusive - the game is not a parody, but rather a serious dungeon bash with a sense of humour. I can't say though if this humour carries through the various other titles in the series. This is one of my partner's favourite games.

If you can find it, this is an excellent game.

There is some humor (tho' not a lot), and it's fairly faithful to the novel.

Plus it's just darned fun.

I think this game just went out of print, so grab it if you see it!

Quote:
1. The game must have some humor to it, whether the whole game is a laugh-fest, or merely an element of the game uses wry wit.

Plenty of puns! Cyborg cattle armed with machine guns, flamethrowers, milk bombs, flaming cowpie attacks, and dreaded methane attacks!

Quote:
2.1. Cthulhu/Lovecraftian mythos,

The Great Cowthulhu isn't in this one...

Quote:
2.2. The old west and gunfighting,

What's better than cowboys gunfighting? When cows are doing the gunfighting!

Quote:
2.3. Musketeers and swashbuckling (including pirates).

Musky steers and watching buckling armor? (That was a stretch!)

Quote:
3. The game should have some artistic merit (even if that is merely a well-drawn cartoon in the rulebook ).

The "techie" cartoon illustrations on the cards are rather amusing.
