I admit it. I'm a table-talker. I'll suggest moves, say what I'm planning to do, say what other people are planning to do, and all sorts of game talk at the table.

What games do you think should NOT have table-talk? And, please, pull up a chair, sit at the table, and tell us why!

South: Oh? Did you see any grand slams?

North: No it was early. I just watched the groundskeeper rake a spade the mound.

South: Did you visit the clubhouse?

North: A little...I don't think the team has a good chance this season, but they do have a lot of heart.

South: Hmm...

We played this a lot on our dorm floor and had a tournament. Two guys were open cheaters and had all sorts of table-talk codes. We beat them anyway and boy were they ticked!

Any partnership card game, especially trick-taking ones, qualifies for this list.

This cuts both ways: it's both really annoying to let players who are more experienced lecture less experienced players on why this or that move was the right move, and it only lengthens and cheapens the game to let players engage in the ol' "He's the fox!" "No, you're the fox!" hunt.

The four player partnership game tempts players to talk so strongly that when we forbid table talk, knuckles are sometimes bleeding by the end of the game! I've played both ways many times, and the "no-talkee" games just seem to be more fun.

El Grande's appeal is just about ruined by tabletalk.

The critical skill in the game is how to provoke other people into costly buildups while avoiding them yourself.

If red makes a play to remove some caballeros from his home province to make New Castille Blue:3 Yellow:2, and the response is that Blue says: "I'll stop building up in your home if you let me keep New Castille, so we can both go after Red.", then you've lost a big part of the game and replaced it with backstabbing and clubbing-the-leader.

Euchre is sort of a social game, but I'd steal be much happier if people kept their yaps shut during points. Mostly cause it makes a fast game slow, but also cause I'm never totally sure if they are cheating or not.

And although it's not talking, one of my friends always, BLATANTLY, arranges her cards after trump is made, putting her trump in the same part of her hand. I think it's code because my team could always beat her and her boyfriend, but now we rarely do.

I hate in Settlers of Catan when other players divulge what resource cards they have in their hands (usually to dissuade the robber). It should also be taboo to reveal your face-down development cards.

Almost any game with teams of players can enjoy a different playing experience by preventing communication among teammates. We have played this with 10 minute discussion sessions before each Russian turn or with no talking at all. Another absolutely fabulous game to try with a "no talking" clause is Diplomacy!

In a game with two gaming newbies I mistakenly told one of the newbies what role to take the next turn, and promptly had that character assasinated the next turn. The assassin player won the game that turn - drat!
