After a few well attended events, we dropped to seven players for our first event to take place on a Friday night. It had looked like it was going to be another good turnout with lots of RSVPs indicating attendance, but some folks didn't make it. For example, my dentist was going to come with her two girls, but got asked to babysit for a neighbor at the last moment. Her kids are fun gamers, so that's too bad. And many of those who came, came late and/or left early.

Makoto arrived early and helped me set up. We started with about 5 quick games of Outfox. We then played some other games, but he would later play this with Megumi and Kiyomi. I would also later play with both of them. Everyone seems to like this game and it is seeing a lot of action.

Since it was still the two of us, we switched to Hive. Makoto and I played two games of this. Later, Makoto would play a teaching game with Megumi.

Our third 2-player selection was Taluva. We played 3 teaching games, before a third person finally arrived.

We started Cartagena as a 3 player game, but Sayoko arrived after a couple of rounds, so we dealt her in. Arriving late and being a first timer didn't bring her any luck, as she finished way last.

Makoto was playing Hive with Megumi, who had arrived shortly before Makoto got all his pirates on the boat, so after the rest of us finished Cartagena, we started a game of Qwirkle. Sayoko had to leave before we finished with all the cubes, but the score was Kiyome 86, Sayoko 77, and Jeffrey 67. People really enjoy putting the 6th block in a set and scoring the bomus 6 points! Another game that is seeing a lot of action.

Iori and Josh arrived just before Qwirkle finished, so they played some Outfox while waiting for Kiyomi and I to join them in a game of Manhattan. Iori says that she really likes this game, but found she had been playing just a little bit wrong. This is an easy game to learn, but several people have had trouble forgetting the simple rules of how to build. Jeffrey 51, Iori 40, Kiyomi 38 and Josh 26. Next, Makoto took my seat and the scores in the second game were Iori 41, Makoto 37, Josh 36 and Kiyomi 29.

With only three of us left, Makoto, Kiyomi and I pulled out Big Points. This is a quick game that is easy to learn, but soon has you strategizing to maximize your score. Tough to do, as you don't know the value of the scoring disks until the pawns climb the stairs. We played 3 games of this, then they played a little Outfox while I put the games away and cleaned up the room.

Jeffrey 1st 34, 2nd 29 and 3rd 27.
Makoto 1st 29, 2nd 32 and 3rd 30.
Kiyomi 1st 27, 2nd 22 and 3rd 28.
