A "What do you fancy playing tonight?"

B "Erm...Whatever you fancy..."

A "OK... what about Pueblo?"

B "No, not that one."

A "OK... What about Settlers?"

B "Erm... no... not that one..."

A "Well you choose!"

B "No, we'll play Pueblo if you want."

A "No, no! You just said..."

B "But if you want to I don't mind playing it with you."

A "ARGH!!"

Well, to be honest it's never as bad as all that but it can be hard to tell what game will fit your mood and the more choice you have the harder the choice becomes!

So I have thought of a solution. It's a pretty crappy solution and I'm not going to mention it to my gf just yet but maybe planning out the games in advance would force us to play certain games - and not just the ones we always play.

Maybe - just maybe! - we could devise a campaign scenario based on the games we have that we could keep score with and might even tell a story! Maybe the winner of one game would get an advantage in the next...

It's sad, I know - but it got me thinking...

We haven't met yet but are about to! We begin the campaign as washed up settlers who happen upon the same island. In time (not very long) our paths cross and we must fight for domination of the island. Get your hands off my sheep, woman!

With the island dominated by one power now we look at it on a more micro level and zoom into one of those pasture tiles. Whilst she may have won the battle to dominate the island I may yet control the land of one of those hexes. That battle for domination will need the wiles of knights, robbers, monks and... farmers.

I will probably lose this game too - but all is not lost because a plague has been imported onto the island by a trader specialising in exotic hamsters (actually rats named Basil). The plague is threatening to kill all on the island and the only way out is on five balloons... Run for the baskets!

The survivors crash land with little to survive on but some jewels which they trade for food and resources and a few mangy exotic hamsters which they roast and eat with glee. Many die of food poisoning and shame for sinking so low. The others begin to build up a new home - a trading community with which to continue the long running - and pointless - rivalry with their opponents. No working together for these two!

Annoyed with each other now, the rival factions approach the lord of Puerto Rico to have their rivalry resolved once and for all. The lord is a peaceful man but not a green fingered one. He has always dreamed of a beautiful garden and charges the two rivals to compete to build the more exquisite. It is The War of the Daisies.

The gardens are wondrous but the two rival chiefs are unhappy - although declared more luscious, the other chief refuses to accept the judgement (hey - he used Agent Orange!). Annoyed the lord orders them to build him a temple to the gods to show their true worth. The chief who displays most pride in their work will be killed. Yes - killed. That's what you get if you keep arguing.

The winner? Well, I haven't put the idea to my gf yet but I'm willing to guess it'll be her...
