a We met last night and gee-whiz, it was like the old days. We had a bunch of people, even a couple new ones, and three tables going much of the time. The theme was to be warmer climes. Basically an excuse to get out Perikles, Santiago and Tikal. None of these games hit the table. People are starting to request games, which is great. And it got tricky last night as some games broke up, others formed, and sometimes a couple folks found themselves waiting to get in a game. Anyway, here's how things shook out to the best of my knowledge.

We started out with Boomtown, as it was last month's game of the month, and it's one of Maly's current favorites, and if we played it first she could play with us. I had to drop out before the game really got going as people kept showing up at the house. Danny, Dan, Matt O. and Maly were left. Maly held her own with the big boys, coming in second, just a couple points behind Danny. This is a cool little opener. Seemed like all had a good time.

David showed up ready to play some cards. It didn't take him but about 5 seconds to round up enough for some Pitch. David and David beat Tyler and Brian. I don't know how the game went. I think Pitch is the official Missouri trick taking game.

A game of 31 also happened at the card table.

And a game David calls 7-6-4, a version of which I've found on the card rules website, but not here.

Again, I wasn't there so I can't tell you much.

Here's what I was doing while everyone else was playing cards and Boomtown - getting trounced by Caleb at Gobblet. Gobblet is a game I like a lot, but clealy, I'm pretty bad at it. Partly I was watching the Boomtown game, cheering on Maly. But also, I just don't pay close enough attention to this game when I'm playing it. It's one thing to get caught in a situation when your opponent can win in a couple of different places. It's another to just not see his three in a row and not block it. Caleb shot up on the leaderboard after last night, in no small part to beating me over and over at this game (and most of the games he played as well).

After Boomtown, Matt O., Caleb, Tyler and I took on the zombies. Everything went really well for us right from the start. Matt found the rusty van in the garage. Caleb found the generator in the cellar, as well as a bunch of fuel. Our goal was clear - get the fuel to the van and drive off. Thing is, those zombies kept coming and coming and coming. Tyler was the first to go. He lost his mind, dove into a room full of the undead, and was eaten alive (he wanted to go play something else). In the meantime, Matt and Caleb held off the zombies while I put together a couple of molotovs. Then I lugged the fuel can up the stairs and out a hole that Caleb had put in the wall with his lawn mower. I launched a couple molotovs, clearing our way, mostly, to the garage. And then a strange thing happened. Caleb killed Matt with a hammer and took away the car keys. I was thinking about running back to the house with my fuel, barricading myself in the cellar, and waiting for the zombies to finish that murderer off. But the gas can was so heavy, I didn't think I could make it before he came after me as well. So I went along with Caleb. And I'll never forgive myself. We got the van started and drove it to freedom with relative ease. I thought I'd killed enough zombies to win, but I wasn't sure, so I tried to kill him with a nail gun as we drove away, but I couldn't get it done. In hind sight I probably should have killed him in the garage for what he did to Matthew, then loaded Matthew's body into the van and taken him to the hospital. I could have done it (Caleb and I mocked the fight out afterwards). But I didn't. And Caleb won with a few more Zombie kills under his belt.

Really fun game. I'm not crazy about sliding around all the zombies. Need to buy myself a bag of them I guess. But I'm looking forward to playing another scenario or this one again. I'm not sure Matt feels the same way.

While all the zombie mess was going on, Brian and Danny knocked out a quick game of Settlers. Danny won by a point. Of course a point that Brian was ready to take the next turn. Anyone see the article in Wired about Settlers?

As the zombie fun continued, the five remaining played some Citadels. Tweets won that game. I got in on the second game. I'd done a pretty good job of building up a variety of buildings. On the last play, when Brian had built his 7th building, the Warlord, knocked one of my buildings down. Had he not, I would have tied for the win. Kingmaking? I don't know. David said he would have knocked down one of Brian's, but was barred by the rules from doing that. And while hurting me didn't help him, it was his last play and he had the money and power to do it, so, what the heck. Anyway, good game Brian. I like this game. But I don't love it. I'd like to love it. I'm not sure what's missing. Maybe just not playing it enough. In an effort to find out, I'm declaring Citadels this month's Game of the Month. Congratulations.

Finally, here and there, there was some Liar's Dice played. I like this game a lot. More fun and easy with a lot of players. Bit more serious and difficult with fewer. I think I'm pretty good at it, but Caleb won more than I did.

It was a great night. Great turn out. A lot of games played. After much calculation, it appears that Caleb was the winner for the night, again, probably because he played against me most of the night. Danny is still king of the Leaderboard ( http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dffx4wg5_2fk3dn4fd ). I say it's time we knock him down a few notches. We'll see if we can't do that next month.
