I have a group that meet two nights a week that has 5 people, but the other five nights, it's just me and the husband... looking for some suggestions on good two player games. Or some multiplayer games that work well with two players. I don't really like war games, though if you suggest some, I may decide to try them out.

Empire Builder... Love the game with two people. Just have to make sure the building rules are followed for the Honeymoon Game. This goes for all of the crayon rails games.

TransAmerica... Played this for the first time at Origins 2004, and it has quickly become one of our commonly played games. Works very well with two people. Also works well with five.

San Juan... This works as well with two people as with four. The game play is slightly different. Haven't bought it yet, since I learned about it fairly recently.

I like this one....scales well from 2 to 4 players. You might try St. Petersburg, Samurai, or Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper as well....

This seems to be a really good 2 Player Game, it also suits for 3 and 4 Players, but its originally designed for 2 People. One playing Sauron and hie Minions, the other one playing as the Free People of ME. It seems to be a little Complex, but this should not deter you

Blokus

A relatively new abstract game of tile placement and area control that plays 1-4 people. This one is our current house favorite.

Balloon Cup was mentioned above and I agree with it so I thought I'd add it.

Baloon Cup is popular and I'd recommend many of the other Kosmo games too. Kahuna, I like that one.

People have given you lot's of other lists to check out below and I recoomend reading them too. Many of these games will appear there.

I'll also throw in Through the Desert and Samurai.

Odin's raven too.

I do find games like Through the Dessert, Samurai, Ticket to Ride, and maybe even Citadels to be good choices as they can be played with more than two players when you have a larger group together.

One I like and find challangeing is Lord of the Rings (expansions included after you play the main game). This can be played with many more people as well. It's a cooperative game where you play together.

"War" Games: Memior '44, Battle Cry, and Hellas get my nod for lighter, but fun fares...if you're into them at all.

Okay someone is going to ask, "Is that guy going to add Yinsh to every conceivably applicable list?". I'm an unabashed abstract games lover and Project Gipf fan and hey someone already added Blokus so I am not the first suggester of an abstract.

You'll find that Take Stock scales well from 2-6 players. It is a medium-light card game that clocks in at around 45 minutes. Minor screwage opportunities, and interesting choices to make each turn. I hope you get the chance to try it.

Cheese Chasers is a SOLITAIRE OR MULTI-PLAYER, FREE PNP card game that I designed, takes 1-10 minutes to play. Printable on 3 pgs of 8.5" x 11" (that includes the pocketmod rule booklet). It can be played Cooperatively OR Competitively.

The objective is to surround the Cheese Cards while breaking the Mousetraps, and keeping away from the Cats. The catch is that players have to place the next card off of the previously placed card. If you have three unbroken Mousetraps out at anytime the game ENDS, and your score is ZERO! So even in Competitive play, players must Cooperate.

Cool thing is, it all fits in a wallet, so bringing it anywhere is a breeze...

and also doubles as a side dish...
