ELECTRICITY! After 6 days without any, not to mention running water, it's high time for a list covering those games played during the down time of Hurricane Frances.
Well, as we were in an evacuation zone, I figured I'd pack up a few games to get us through the dark days ahead. I picked games based on portability, accessability to non-gamer family members, and feasibility of playing with no table (hotel).
I may have to rethink my choices next time a hurricane rolls into town.

This proved to be the most played and most requested. A word game with no board which we could play with just one flashlight was really clutch.

Grabbed the marbles and rings of Zertz. Figured I could grab any 1 person and have a go on the mini hotel table. Specifically, I had my father in mind, as he enjoys chess. However, he was very ambivalent after 2 games and seemed to just be playing along since I asked. Disappointing reception to a game I've enjoyed in the past.

We tried this in the hotel lobby before the ligts went out, and several passersby seemed intrigued. This was well-received. However, this game is much better and quicker on BSW I think and my experience in knowing the map really well makes this game noncompetitive for me until other players learn the nuances enough for the luck to equalize things. Still, it was a nice diversion, especially since the games others played during the storm in the lobby depressed me: cards, Monopoly, Clue, and Trivial Pursuit I noticed. I did bring...

In Pursuit. Was looking forward to giving this a go, but was never able to get the minimum 4 players required for a game. I find people who are bad at trivia are loath to play trivia games to expose their lack of trivia knowledge. We did end up reading some random questions to pass the time, though.

I also brought this one, mostly because I like it a lot. I did squeeze in one game, but it probably wasn't the best choice due to all the components-- lots of tiles, stop markers, cards, etc. This is still one of my favorites though.

I figured a card game is always easy to do on the go. Problem here was I was a little hesitant to try it unless folks had basic trick-taking card game experience. Instead, I ended up teaching Spades which was OK.
