I hear alot of things on BGG that don't make much sense. These myths get promulgated without people thinking about them. Even when they clearly don't make much sense. This Geeklist will dispel some of these BGG 'Urban Legends'.

After doing my due diligence, I've discovered these geeklists which are simular to this one:

Myth: Glory to Rome is 'like' Race for the Galaxy.

Reality: Beyond basic simularities (card games, score victory points and use roles) there are no simularities!

- GtR isn't an economic game. RftG is an economic game.
- GtR doesn't have simultaneous play. RftG has simultaneous play.
- GtR and RftG have totally different themes.
- GtR has direct conflict. RftG doesn't.
- GtR has alot more interaction than RftG.
- Similar choices: Do I chuck this marble in my vault for easy points now or use it to work toward a more powerful building? Do I throw craftsman (or develop or settle), or does that help my opponents too much?
- The role selection of GtR is more similar to that of PR and Race than to Citadels: by choosing a role, you allow that role to the others as well. In Citadels, choosing a role denies it to everyone else.

If I was going to compare GtR to a game, Citadels would be a better comparison! The basic simularities are the same (card games, score victory points and use roles). Furthermore:

- GtR isn't an economic game. Citadels is an economic game.
- GtR and Citadels don't have simultaneous play.
- GtR and Citadels have simular themes.
- GtR and Citadels have direct conflict.
- GtR and Citadels both have alot more interaction than RftG.
- Similar choices: Citadels cards are static and offer limited coices.
- Citadels role selection is restrictive.

I challenge anyone to give me legitimate reasons why Glory to Rome is simular to RftG!

Myth: Diplomacy ruins friendships.

Reality: Any friendship that ends during a Diplomacy game, wasn't going to last very long. Its a game! Anyone who will get that upset over a game has serious issues. If someone can't handle a friendly game of diplomacy, good riddance.

I have made some friends playing Diplomacy. They are not overly touchy cry babies. They generally have a nice sense of humor and are fun to game with. So we should change the t-shirt to 'Diplomacy creates short alliances and lasting Friendships'.

Myth: Elimination is an obsolete mechanic.

Reality: Elimination adds a different tension to a game then other mechanics. It adds a higher level of challenge and interaction. But it also makes the game less accessable. Since game designers want to make their games as accessable as possible, elimination is not being put into many new multiplayer designs. So people think the mechanic is obsolete. Over time designers will realize that this mechanic gives many benefits and they will start using it again.
