The Adult Male Slumber Party is a gathering of friends every 3 months or so that spends an entire weekend gaming and just hanging out. Most of us went to college at either the University of Iowa or for the less intelligent, Iowa State.

We have spread out around the Midwest after graduating. The AMSP gives us all a great reason to get back together and catch up while playing some great games. The group meets in either New London or Waterloo, Iowa. However, friends come from as far as Illinois and Minnesota.

This event was hosted in Waterloo by Adam and his wife Sara.

We had 6 geeks attend including: Adam (DNose), Matt aka Chili Bean, Paul, Chad, Joel (fattylumpkin) and myself.

I was the first to arrive in Waterloo for the AMSP Friday afternoon. I taught Adam King of Siam. I ended up winning after a British victory (4 ties) and having the most sets. Always a close game with a ton of strategy in a very brief amount of time.

We then launched directly into a couple of games of Glory to Rome. Adam had never played and this can be a bit of a challenging game to wrap your mind around at first. Despite that he ended up winning game #1 by making excellent use of his vault. I came back in game #2 with a killer combination of buildings and got the win. I'm really enjoying this game more every time I play it and I believe Adam enjoyed it as well as he suggested it again later in the weekend.

It turned out that Paul, Matt and Chad were still a few hours away which left Adam and I with a bit more time for some 2P games. We decided to give 1960 a shot. I was Kennedy and Adam played Nixon. Adam was really stomping me for the majority of the game with my one area of success being in dominating the South. Adam got 3 of the momentum cards on the same turn he got cards that locked me down and did not allow me to take any actions in those areas. I did manage to take 2 of the 3 issues in the debates which helped pull me back into the game a bit. I also got a real nice hand on the last turn and came on really strong in the Midwest and a bit in the East. The game was decided on election day in Indiana. Adam had 1 cube of support in Indiana and I had endorsements in the Midwest. I also had the majority of the cubes in the bag. I just needed to draw 1 blue cube but proceeded to draw 3 red cubes in a row! Nixon ended up winning the election 261 to 246. Fun game.

Matt, Chad and Paul arrived near the end of our game of 1960. We decided to welcome them in traditional AMSP style with some Bang! action. Paul was the Sheriff and ended up winning after killing the Renegade (myself) with about 4 Bang cards in 1 turn. The AMSP had officialy begun!

Chad had brought along one of my least favorite games, RoboRally. Chad knows I despise this game but was really excited to play. Chad is such a great guy that its hard to resist him and I caved quickly. Matt crushed us in a 2 board race for 3 flags. Only 2 other players had even reached the 1st flag before the end of the game. This game is just way too chaotic for me but Chad was smiling the entire game.

During the game of Pandemic, Joel arrived and Matt finally got out of bed. Of course since a new member of the AMSP arrived we quickly decided to a big 6 player Bang fest and welcome Joel in proper AMSP fashion. Paul was again the Sheriff and pulled off yet another impressive win.

We wanted to keep all 6 players together and so decided to play Red November. Joel had played it once before but the rest of us were rookies so it was a bit rough getting started. We ended up failing horribly. My gnome had actually passed out after hitting the bottle a bit hard the second time and never woke up before the tragic end. Everyone agreed that down time was a bummer during this game. It was just after lunch and we had already lost the world to disease and killed a sub full of gnomes. Not a bad start to the day.

We then decided to break up into 2 smaller groups. One group (Joel, Matt, Paul, myself) broke out the massive game of Planet Steam. Joel brought along both his copy and a new in shrink copy for me that we had just received in a big group order of 3 copies of Planet Steam directly from Germany. I'm a bit surprised that he had enough trunk space to bring both copies.

Joel did a terrific job of teaching this game and then proceeded to stomp us for the win. Despite his great zeal for Planet Steam, Joel did manage to keep his shirt on for the entire game. I believe he beat me by like $75-80 and then the battle for second was really, really close between the rest of us. What an amazing game.

I think Chad has been dragging this game to every gaming event since he was 8. Adam again humored Chad and played. It sounded like Chad had a great opportunity to finally win as the good guys but fell just short. It must have been tense b/c at one point Chad was pacing around complaining about pit sweat.

Adam just had 30-45 minutes as he wanted to head to bed early since he had a 5K race early on Sunday morning. We played 2 quick 2P games of Crokinole before he went to bed. I hadn't played since winning the Geekway Crokinole tournament with Joel and my mad skillz were a bit rusty. We had 2 close games that I ended up barely winning. I love this game.

While we were playing Crokinole the rest of the guys decided to give Small World another go. It was rather entertaining just hearing some of the conversation taking place during this game as the combination of races can be so crazy. Who would have thought about Diplomatic Trolls?

I think Matt ended up winning this game but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Adam had headed to bed and Joel had sadly had to leave the AMSP due to some crazy concerns about being away from home with a wife that is 9 months pregnant at home!?!

I taught Matt, Chad and Paul Stone Age. I hadn't played in a long while and it was rather late so my rules explanation sucked and we got off to a bit of a rough start. After a couple of rounds things smoothed out. I ended up winning with Matt finishing second. Paul and Chad had not fully realized the big points that can be scored off the cards at the end of the game and by the time they figured that out it was to late for them to catch up.

Chad slept in on Sunday morning which left just myself, Adam, Paul and Matt. We decided to play Pandemic a couple of times. In game #1 we had a terrible initial set-up with everything clustered together. We got stomped quickly. We decided to give it another shot and things looked a lot more favorable for us. We had cured 3 diseases and Adam was ready to cure the 4th on the next turn. Unfortanatley, Paul infected a city causing the 8th outbreak just before Adam's turn. We ended the weekend 0 for 3 in saving the world!

This ended another great AMSP weekend. It was a blast as usual. How fortunate to have such a great group of friends to spend an entire weekend gaming with. Special thanks to Adam and Sara again for hosting.
