Bennett (Todd)
vs
Hale (Ross)

People were a little late showing up, so Ross and I entertained ourselves with some Brawl. We forgot to write down the scores though. I think we tied twice, Ross won 1, and I won 2, but I could easily be off.

Wouldn't you know we discovered a missed rule towards the end. Only 1 extra action token can be used per turn.

I was playing 3rd and decided to try and take over the city Ross built. The ensuing festival battle depleted all of my cards and I don't think I ever really recovered from that. Surrounding water was popular again early on. I was only able to get 3 lakes while Ross and Jeff got 5 or 6. I started falling way behind point wise. It seemed like I was always trying to build something new or take over someone else's stuff, but I could never hold it to expand. Or maybe I just suck at this game.

Ross rushed the end of the game by taking a turn just placing tiles to deplete the supply. I fell into his trap of making the final scoring tough on Jeff by grabbing points for myself. I think I gained 40 pts on Jeff at the end, but it wasn't enough for 2nd. I was expecting Ross to have a bigger lead at the end too.

Can anyone guess who played before and who played for the first time?

Dave's victory dance should have been flagged as a penalty.

Stupid negative charisma. I know I'm losing. I tell people I'm losing. They think I'm lying and smack me down harder. *sigh*

I started off with some stout orcs. I declined them immediately so I could grab some mounted skeletons. I think I should have waited a turn, but I was expecting someone to decline turn 2, but no one did. I tried to expand the skeleton ranks quickly, but after getting an extra dude 3 turns in a row, people saw me as a threat and started attacking with reckless abandon. I declined them and picked up some seafaring wizards for the last 2 turns of the game. I started in the lower ocean and moved towards the lake picking up a magic symbol. I was hoping to get the middle lake and pick up 2 adjacent magic symbols (even if 1 of them had my former skeletons). Barry blocked my path to the lake though. In a fit of rage, I abandoned all regions to come back on the board where his dwarves were still mining for some retribution. It wasn't enough though.

Barry started with alchemy dwarfs and grabbed 2 mines in the corner. He almost had 3 mines, but I think one of them got hit with a sorcerer. He exchenged the dwarfs for some hobbits. I don't think he had a 3rd race.

Ross started with underworld ratman and quickly got a lot of territories. I think he switched to the sorcerers converting some dwarfs and maybe amazons. I forget his 3rd race.

Jeff started out with some trolls with a region bonus. Either hills or farmland since they were in the same place the mounted skeletons wanted to attack. He switched to some amazons, but got too spread out to defend from the sorcerer ability.

I can't remember anything else.

Flukey game. At least half of the floods came out in the first epoch. I think there was more floods than river tiles. I focused on pharoahs and had the majority all 3 rounds. I think I may have over spent once or twice to do that. With all the floods gone, I made a mental note to value river tiles as worthless, but I still acquired around 7 of them. I forget what I had to pay for the sole flood tile that showed up in the last round.

Ross just stomped us with buildings. I think he had all 8 with 2 groups of 3 for 25 points.

We only had time for 1 race. Despite my apparent color blindness, I managed to place my double bet on the winning horse which also won the pace award. There was only 1 other chit bet, but it was a 0.
