LWG saw increases in pre-orders for its game in June. However, its release for Ici, c'est la France! The Algerian War of Independence 1954 - 1962 was delayed to July.

The most impressive gains were by games that were most recently out up for pre-orders, Hell Over Korea, Slouch Hats & Eggshells.

Michael Taylor's games, Battle of Adobe Walls, and The Russo-Japanese War, took in around 20 pre-orders in June.

With the upcoming release of Kim Kanger's Ici, c'est la France! The Algerian War of Independence 1954 - 1962, more interest could be generated for his game on another insurgency on the other side of the globe. Tonkin: La Guerre d'Indochine 1950-1954 also had 20 pre-orders in June.

Company website:
http://www.legionwargames.com/

To place an order, you must first create a pre-order account. When you pre-order a game you are reserving a copy at a discounted price, to be shipped upon release. You are not required to provide a credit card number and will not be invoiced until 30-60 days prior to the release of the game. At that time an invoice will be sent to you via email that you can pay with Credit Card, Check, or Money Order.

All LWG games come in a box with a slip-cover and has die-cut counters

Scheduled for release in July. Hopefully, this will be the last time it appears on this geeklist.

You can download the rulebook and view the game art at the website below:
http://www.legionwargames.com/legion_ici_cest_la_france.html

This game covers the French insurgency war against FLN in Algeria during 1954-62. It is a conflict of great drama. It cost the lives of at least half a million Algerians, it brought the tumultuous exodus of one million French settlers from Algeria and it brought France itself to the brink of civil war.

Game scale:
Units: Regiments
Scale: Area Map
Time: Each game turn is three months

There is one shorter scenario plus the full campaign game.

This game is in Final Development and is scheduled to be released in late August, 2009.

Semper Fi!

The game covers two individual battles on the US invasion of Saipan and Tinian in the summer of 1944. Admiral Nimitz's Operation Granite II, the seizure of the Marianas islands, was divided into two parts, the Northern Troops Landing Force (NTLF) and the Southern Troops Landing Force (STLF). Saipan and Tinian were the objectives for the NTLF, with Saipan being the immediate objective and Tinian the second.

Game scale:
Unit size: Platoons to Regiments
Scale: Hex scale varies from game to game
Game Turn: Each turn represents 12 hours

The game is the first of the Pacific Island Series game system. The series will also include Guam - Vol. II , and Peleliu - Vol. III.

Fastest growth for the month! Speaks well of the original KPG game B-29 Superfortress

As the expansion, Hell over Korea covers B-29 missions in the Korean War from November 1950 through April 1951.

The time period covered was chosen because it was the most dynamic period of the war for the B-29. In November 1950 the Chinese Communists were in the war, and the B-29 began facing its first serious opposition with the introduction of large numbers of Soviet MiG-15 jet fighters, specifically designed to shoot down B-29s and the aging Superfortresses were outmatched by the jet, even with fighter escorts.

Second fastest growth for the month! And still no images on BGG!

Designer Vance von Borries was at Origins recently playtesting the game.

Vance also explains where the title of the game came from.

Quote:
The term "Slouch Hats" refers to the Allied idea, at the time, that all the Allies had to do was to show the Australian slouch hat and the French would rally to the Allied side and then the Vichy defense could be crushed as easily as an eggshell. Historically, it was only this "idea" that was crushed in this manner.

Playtest artwork can be viewed at the website below:
http://www.legionwargames.com/legion_slouchhats.html

Slouch Hats and Eggshells recreates the World War II month-long campaign in French-held Syria and Lebanon.

Most units in the game represent battalions and regiments, with some companies and brigades. The map scale is at 10 miles per hex, while each turn represents 10 days.

Designed by the renowned Vance von Borries, he of the GMT EastFront series fame and also designer of one of my favourite games Roads to Leningrad

Game scale:
Units: French units are battalions. Viet Minh units are regiments and large guerilla groups.
Map: 12.5 miles/20 kilometers per hex
Turn: Each game turn represents 1 month

Also known as the First Battle of Adobe Walls, it was one of the largest battles between U.S. and Great Plains Indians. Kit Carson was given command of the US forces, and his mission was to find the Comanche and Kiowa winter camps and eliminate this threat to the settlers that were moving into and through this area of the Texas panhandle.

This game is the third in the "Indian Wars of the American West" series, with Battle of the Little Bighorn and The Battle of Rosebud Creek.

Game scale:
Units: Each combat unit represents:
- one US Cavalry company
- approximately 100 Indians
- individual leader
Map: Each hex equals 1/4 mile across.
Turn: Each game turn represents 20 minutes.

Impressive growth for an obscure, non-American topic. Could it be people are fascinated by the Tatchanka?

The Russian Civil War goes to Ukraine. This has got to be one of the few games in wargaming featuring a tatchanka (a horse-drawn fighting vehicle, usually a cart or an open wagon with a stationary heavy machine gun installed in the back.) Unbelievable...

Game scale:
Unit size: 2-3,000 fighting troops
Scale: 32 kilometers (20 miles) per hex
Game Turn: Each turn represents 7-8 days

There are 6 scenarios in this game.

A short wargame with a very interesting premise - It's a solitaire game which puts players play the role of General Sir Redvers Buller trying to cross the Thukela River on the 15th December 1899 in order to relieve the Siege of Ladysmith. Can they avoid the historical fate of Buller who was defeated by well-entrenched Boer commandoes (played by the game system) and who was ultimately relieved of command?

Game scale:
Unit size: Company/Battalion/Battery
Scale: Area map
Game Turn: Each turn represents 30 minutes

The Battle of Soissons, 18 July to 28 July, 1918, was the first time that full-size US divisions went on the offensive incorporated in the French army. But most importantly, it was the opening of the Second Battle of the Marne. It not known at the time, although suspected by many, that this battle was the death-knell of the German army.

Fire on the Mountain is a simulation of the Battle of South Mountain and concentrates on the action around Turner's Gap and Fox's Gap. It will emphasize the difficulty of mountainous terrain and the seesaw nature of a battle into which reinforcements continue to trickle and officer casualties effect combat operations. The game uses simple mechanics to simulate movement, artillery, cavalry, leaders, and difficult terrain, with a unique combat system that allows the game to move quickly while still simulating the tense nature of the battle. The game will be produced with double-wide counters (1 1/4" x 5/8") and oversized hexes to accommodate them.

Game scale:
Units: Brigades
Map: Each hex equals 300 yards
Turn: Each game turn represents 1 hour
