I met up with my fellow geekbuddy Frank and his wife Eli, they were both in the process of moving out about two days later than I arrived, I managed to get one game of Coloretto before parting with these friends.

I met up with Scott Jason, his wife Beryl and his friend Gareth. On my last day in New Zealand as I headed to Singapore. This is more a beginning war game than anything but Jason Scott was quite excited to play it and I was happy to fulfill and learn a new game.

We decided we need a more friendly competitive game so pulled out this. Jason pointed out that perhaps peculiarities of Kiwis kept the bidding very low in this game.

So many of the folks at the Singapore Hive Hostel don't necessarily know the same language as I do, so playing games can be challenging especially explaining the rules. My Korean roommates had been actively interacting with me and than I decided it was time. The best thing about this game rules are pretty easy to explain using visual elements, and everyone can count. So we played three games, during the third game I asked them to repeat the color names in the native language so I could try and learn a little bit. A little bit is all I learned puh'nong for pink and car-tu for green I'll look it up later, see if I can improve and maybe tomorrow/today I'll show them No Thanks.

At the Singapore game meeting at Settler's Cafe I was introduced to this sort of the four person version of Lost Cities. It was a fun game and I was happy for the folks to bring me in the amount of attention you have to look at other players before discarding made this one difficult to strategize but I still had fun.

Other games that occurred were Agricola, Shadows Over Camelot (without a traitor which was very curious). I'm The Boss (or whatever it is called) Ivanhoe and a number of others.

I helped some folks with Race for the Galaxy but overall couldn't get involved in another game until the end of the night. They had a set limit of when they had to leave and so I struggled to convince others to play.

Eventually we were down to twenty minutes and I convinced folks to play Werewolf and I took the role as the narrator, the game went smashingly well. By the end of the night folks warmed up to me and looked forward to the next time I'd be able to join them.

I plan on returning to Singapore by next year, so I hope this groups keeps on going.

Alysse who arrived late like myself found it difficult to find a game and the night was over. She was hungry and Ihadn't ate for a number of hours so she suggested an Indian place down Little India. I was game and she wanted to play games, so I pulled out the two player game I brought and we played about eight games worth in the two player format. It was interesting but by game six I was kind of tired. I walked Alysse home and then headed back to the hostel.

On the ride from Wellington to Auckland after a somewhat miserable trip we were heading past Nelson and a son was burning out his father, seemingly bored because of well a transfer to bus and back to train. I approached the kid and his father and pulled out this old classic, the kid and I played a hand and then we were at their stop.

I joined the Auckland Game Meet on the 2nd Tuesday, a group that met in the reception of a Baptist Church. A wonderful experience with them but with me arriving late little options of games to play. I got to play this though finally and I can't say I was too fond of it, lots of random lots of knowledge required to make good ships, but certainly an interesting concept.

I am proud to say I finally got to play a three, and four player of this game and finally I recalled why this is such a good game. Two play is certainly fine to get folks use to it, but it burns one out. Rather than repeat it for what an eight time later when I got back to the Bamber House one of the germans was playing S***head and found out I liked games, we played two player version of this and well aghhh. Oh well live and learn giht.

And now for something entirely different!

The following night my gaming reputation ecame known so one of the Germans approached me as I was talking about games. Tired of Coloretto I explained this is game of scrabble without the words. He seemed quite amused at the idea and so we played. He got real good within a couple games and was quite satisfied.

After a number of games with Ingenious the one explained he had played Magic for quite some time as well as Risk and I suggested this. I informed him still no direct conflict involved but he might find it fun. Of course he tried playing military first game but I seemed t be the one getting the cards. To his dissapointment the second game though he found out Military was nice but the Alien cards were better and so trounced me in that game. It was fun nonetheless to play. The only games I didn't get to play while abroad that I brought were Bang! and No, Thanks. Overall thought it was fun and games are certainly a gateway to ice-breakers.
