This is the monthly list for Columbia Games P500 Games.

This is sadly not a great month for Columbia Preorders. All of the games save one had either no growth or actually lost preorders. Richard the Third has been removed from the preorder system as it charged in July.

There was no Columbia email last month and very few updates to be found in the various forums on BGG, CSW, or Columbia.

Here are the stats for the month.

And now, onto the preorders. Be sure to visit Columbia Games GamePlan website to preorder these titles at:

Your comments are what make these lists fun so please join in the discussion.

This game was removed from Columbia's P500 system this month so I will no longer be tracking it in these lists. I am very excited to get this one in the mail, hopefully soon-ish (Columbia is saying early August). Congratulations to everyone who preordered and pushed this one over the top.

As one final side-note on this game, it looks like it has had one final name change. It was originally Wars of the Roses and then briefly just Richard III. Now it appears to be Richard III: Wars of the Roses. I haven't seen anything official on this but it is the name on the box on the game page at Columbia so I assume this is the final change.

Preorder Price: $47.99
Designers: Grant Dalgliesh and Tom Dalgliesh

Sad to see this one lose as many preorders in one month as its gained in four or five. A few months ago, Stan Hilinski, whom I believe creates most of the Vassal modules for Columbia Games, said that this game would likely be published after Richard III: The Wars of the Roses regardless of preorder numbers to help fix issues in Gettysburg: Badges of Courage.

Stan also talked about about some of the game's mechanics and some of his suggested changes over at the game's folder in CSW. Some interesting ideas are discussed if you're interested in taking a look.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Shiloh was a fascinating ACW battle fought in April 1862. A surprise Confederate attack, led by Albert Sydney Johnson, nearly swept encamped Union defenders into the Tennessee River. The next day, a reinforced Union army counter-attacked and drove the CSA line back in confusion and retreat. A CSA victory would have ruined the career of General Ulysses S. Grant. But the battle instead ended with a Union victory, the death of Albert Sydney Johnson, and the eventual demise of Confederate hopes in the West. Both days of Shiloh can be played separately or together.

No new info and no new preorders for this title. Though it seems that Columbia could print it just about anytime they want with or without the P500 numbers. They mentioned in an earlier email they'd like to have it out in time for WBC, which is happening right now. We'll see if this game is removed from the list this month.

In the January issue of Dicey Business, Columbia Games mentioned that this would likely be the next game published after Richard III: The Wars of the Roses and that preorders for the game will be closed soon. If you want it at the discount price now is the time to preorder!

2009 will be the year Slapshot is republished. We are now finalizing production decisions. We will definitely have the game back in print in time for the World Boardgaming Championships this summer.

Slapshot preorders will be closed soon.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Slapshot is a wheeling, dealing game for hockey nuts. Each player assumes the role of team manager. The object is to skillfully manage your team into the playoffs and then win the championship. During the regular season you can improve your team with drafts and trades, but injuries can upset the best of plans. Ultimately, your skill as manager determines if your team wins or loses.

Slapshot includes 49 zany hockey nuts like Slash Gordon, Puck Rogers, Ian Jury, Cheap Shot, Le Goon, and Jack the Tripper.

There's a bit of news on this title. In the Columbia forum for this game, Gary Selkirk let us know that a draft of the rules were submitted to Columbia but so far they haven't been put on the website yet. He also talked about the use of the Battle Board the End Game. I'm excited to read more about this title as the information become available.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Shenandoah covers the remarkable Valley Campaign of May/June 1862. Led by Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson, a smaller Confederate army with audacious marching and fighting paralyzed and defeated three enveloping Union armies. Military students worldwide study Jackson's strategy and tactics to this day.

The CSA player has the advantage of central position, but must use it aggressively to prevent the Union armies from combining against him. The USA player has a clear advantage in numbers, but must cope with a command system that penalizes the wide separation of his three forces.

I'm glad to see this title have some growth (although sad to see it as the ONLY title with growth). There's not a lot of new information for this title this month but the updates to the map and rules from last month are still pretty exciting.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Rome vs Rome brings the drama of the Roman Civil War to life. Players take control of the legions of Caesar or Pompey and fight to rule Rome as Emperor. There are two campaigns: "Crossing the Rubicon" in which Caesar faces Pompey, and "Augustus", in which Caesar's nephew Octavian battles with Marc Antony and Cleopatra.

The map board depicts the major theatre of operations during the Roman Civil War 49BC-31BC.

Here is a link to the recently updated rules for the game:
http://www.columbiagames.com/resources/3071/rome-rules.pdf
Justin Thompson also posted a new copy of the map here on BGG:

There have been a few discussions about recent changes to the game, including leader numbers, in the Columbia forum for the game.
