It has been a rainy day... yuk Normally the rain is a very welcome visitor as the environment here is often described as being a "high altitude desert." It has been unseasonably wet this year, and while I welcome the water, my mental inertia is affecting my mood. Fortunately, a couple of Michael Schacht games were a good compensation for the lack of sunshine today.

Did you play anything today? Feel free to make additions.

This game was the bookend for the afternoon: we started here, came full circle and ended here. The first session was three-person game:

D: 1st
R: 2nd
Me: Last.

It was not an auspicious start and I began to wonder if reading a book on the couch might not have been a better idea.

I opened this, punched it, read the rules for the others and myself and proceeded to take a beating. It was fun anyway. I spread myself too thin and only secured a single key, which leads to a question. Can the rules be clear, unambiguous and something still have a thematic ambiguity? The rules state:

"To build ... in an outer part of the city, you must play two identical landform cards..."

"To build in one of the four inner city parts you must additionally give up one key card..."

Seems like, thematically, you would need the key to get into the city initially as that is where the city gates/doors are located. There are only walkways between the outer ring and inner ring of the city. So once your in the inner ring, must you use the key to move laterally? We seemingly played incorrectly, using a key to enter the city initially and also to move from the outer ring to the inner ring, but required no key to move laterally. Please advise. All in all it was still enjoyable.

D: 1st
R: 2nd
Me: 3rd (but not by much)

I placed more emphasis on acquiring keys and blocking others from getting them. Finally I won one, and satisfyingly enough, second place wasn't even close. Yes!

Me: 1st (84 contracts)
D: 2nd (54 contracts + 3 coins)
R: 3rd (54 contracts + 1 coin)

Second and third were a tie broken by the coinage. In addition, I sure do like the auction mechanic.

One friend had to leave so we went back to Hansa. The 2-player game is where Hansa really shines in my opinion. Unfortunately, it was a close loss for me.

Me: 1st loser ;-)

I think we might have time for one more quick game. I forced a quick end and pulled out a victory!
