My regular Friday night game group, we meet every Friday night about 10 PM and play one to two board games at our local game store. The store has a playing area you can play in after hours, even all night if you wanted to. We played 10 games over a 10 week period, with the winner getting a new game bought by the three losers! We played our last game the last Friday of August. We each picked one game that had to be played in the decathlon. We then each submitted 3 games on pieces of paper into a dice bag(so a total of 12 games), and picked the remaining 6 games to be played in our tourney. We used a scale of 4 points for the winner, 3 for second, 2 for third and 1 for last. Person with the most points would be declared the winner. The only rule for picking the games were one of us had to own it, and it played with four. So no Lost Cities, and if we really hated a game we could ask for exclusion from the decathlon. One person asked for Puerto Rico in this manner because he knew three of us liked it very much but for some reason he does not. We had a great time doing this and really had FUN. After our last game we then each rated the games on a scale from 1-10 for how much we enjoyed the games in the decathlon, which was harder than I thought because it was hard to give one of the games played a one. I was actually surprised on how the ratings came out! The winner gets his game this Friday Sept 4th!! I wish it was me! Second place SUCKS!!!

My group is played with 3 other guys named Graham, Marco, and Dan. They play table top mini games much more than I do (AEWWII, Warmachine, etc). They have always played board games too, they just play more now than they did before, and I take credit for that!! I picked Goa to play in the decathlon, and we had a great game of it, the scores were, Graham 37, Andrew 36, Marco 35 and Dan 32. This was a close game from start to finish, and I think was the reason this was rated the highest game in the tourney, at an 8.25 rating. I was surprised by this since it was our first game played I thought it would suffer from "memory loss"

Marco picked this game to play, and is one of our favorites, we played the K deck. Again a close game and I pulled out a 1 point victory over Marco. The thing is I thought I was going to win big, I was all set to upgrade to stone on the last turn and I was going second, so I thought I had it because the 1st palyer was going to go for cattle, but he took the upgrade spot, and I had to scramble to figure out what to do! This was the second highest game rated at 7.25.

Dan picked this game to play. It is a game I really like, and one that I think is underrated here on the GEEK. I ended up last in this game! There were a couple of turns that cost me when I really needed to take a certain offer but the person ahead of me got it! Graham won this game with 114 points. This ended up being ranked 4th with a 7.00 rating.

Graham picked this game and he won by one point over Marco. Playing this game with something on the line made it a little bit funnier for me. This game ranked 5th with a 6.5 rating.

Now we are at the point where all the games picked were random out of the dice bag. There were 12 games in the dice bag and only 6 were played in the decathlon. The games in the bag, but not picked were: Race for the Galaxy, Le Harve, Can't Stop, Tribune, Notre Dame, and Caylus. Power Grid was a game we knew and I was able to power 18 cities and second got 17 cities. A surprise rating here because we all like this game but it was rated as the 8th game with a 4.0 rating. I think it may be because we have played it many times.

Ra was our next game, and Graham had not played before. This caused him to come in last, which was good, since he is in the overall lead in the decathlon. I was able to keep from getting any negative points and did well in getting buildings to score a win with 46 points. Ra was rated as the 6th best game with a 4.5 rating. Slightly surprised since in general we like this game better, but I think it was rated lower because it played out as a fun game but not a FUN game like some of the other games we played in the decathlon.

This is one of my favorite games, and I thought this game was going to help me in the tournament since I thought I was going to do well in this game, However, I came in last! Another close game with Dan winning 68 to 65. This was our third highest rated game at a 7.00 rating and it wins the tie breaker(over Oasis) since it got a 10 rating from Dan.

Giants is a game our group has played a few times, and when the game started the other three players claimed the high scoring statue spaces before me so I decided to go with a low scoring statue/high scoring hat strategy. It was awesome, I did not win but I only lost by 3 points and that was because I did not get any bonus points for having to share in helping with moving the statues along to the high scoring spots, but the guys really felt the pressure as the game was ending faster than they thought and there was much tension in the last turns. This was rated with a 4 rating for 7th place.

Our second to last game was Snow Tails, and we buildt a custom map that was high in difficulty. For me to win the decathlon I needed Graham to finish third or lower in the race. Graham got off to a horrible start and I raced out to first place, but about 2/3rds into the race I took some hits on my sled and Graham's cards improved and he was able to pass me for the win! This game is better with more pitfalls on the track. This was our lowest rated game in the tourney, again I think this was the game we decided had to get a low score, it got a 3.5 rating. The irony here is this is one of our most played games.

Well first place was wrapped up by Graham with his Dog Sled win! But the other spots were up for grabs. We like this game better than the rankings on BGG. This was our 9th rated game with a 3.75 rating, and one that suffered from being the last game played and could not determine the winner. This was a close game and I had to get second place to get second place overall and I was able to achieve this! Dan was the winner of the game. So overall Graham was the winner with 30.5, I was second with 25, Marco with 22.5 and Dan with 22.(Graham and Marco tied in Giants).
