What an eclectic night of gaming this was. Before the evening was over four games made their game night debut. Martin Wallace's new offering made only it's second appearance. The other games, while familiar, were an interesting mix.

This game night marked the beginning of a game filled labor day weekend in La Crosse. Friday night saw nine more gamers gathering at Rick and Janet's and Sunday afternoon six more gamers gathered at Mark and Lea's. I've heard through the grapevine that at least one of the game night regulars played games every day of the labor day long weekend. But then again, what better way to celebrate our daily labors than participation in this most wonderful leisure time pursuit?

Here are the seven games played by the fourteen gamers present. (You may do the math below and only find thirteen names. Rest assured that Eric was present on game night even though meetings called him away before he could play any games.)

All of these folks, and many others, meet Thursday evenings every week to play games of assorted lengths and complexities. If you are in the greater La Crosse area you are welcome to join us!

Information and a schedule of game nights is available at www.boardgames.meetup.com/495.

We also have a guild on BGG. It is here: / www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/43

First game and the so-called feature game of the evening. Mike had missed out on playing several time a requested an opportunity to play. Rick and Shawn welcomed the opportunity to join in. Travis was the 'splainer. As we were about to begin Erin showed up and, to her good fortune, joined the game.

Four of the auto age entrepreneurs struggled to make ends meet throughout the game. The final scores reflect ultimately solvency for all four but none of them gained riches or fame. Strongly, resolutely, and often silently one one rose as the ultimate automaker of this play. Erin finished conclusively in first place, a position she seemed to hold for the duration of the game. Nice work!

In honor of the Minnesota State Fair, where I was the next day, I have included ribbon colors with the scores. Everyone is a winner at game night.

Score
Mike $3890 2nd (red ribbon)
Travis $2350 5th (green ribbon)
Shawn $2860 4th (yellow ribbon)
Erin $4990 1st (blue ribbon)
Rick $3440 3rd (white ribbon)

Travis did point out that he was teaching the game and that MAY have explained his finish. He did seem to be disoriented at the beginning of the game, I will give him that.

I hope I picked the right game image. I never saw the box to this one. Making it's game night debut was Oasis. Jennifer, Mandi, John, and Amy tried their hands at desert success. A close game for the second through fourth place finishers. Amy, however, did a major number on her fellow travelers and finished well ahead.

Score
Jennifer 85 4th (yellow ribbon)
Mandi 86 3rd (white ribbon)
John 88 2nd (red ribbon)
Amy 113 1st (blue ribbon)

Our first unpublished prototype to be played at game night. (Not the first time we've play-tested but the other time was an expansion, if I remember right.) This prototype goes by the name Dangerous Business and I know absolutely nothing of its play. I do know that Curt brought the prototype and was joined by Mark and Brian in playing the game. Curt perhaps used his slight advantage in familiarity to win the game (speculation on my part, maybe not the case at all). I have no real idea how it went as prototypes go--observations anyone?

Score
Curt 17 1st (blue ribbon)
Brian 12 2nd (red ribbon)
Mark 10 3rd (white ribbon)

Appearing in it's German (only?) version Brian, John, and Mark took on Walhalla as a second game of the night. The game report notes that there was some rules confusion due to suboptimal (their words) translation. If only they had realized before the game was over that German speaking Mike was just two table away. Ahh, well.

Score
Brian 89 1st (blue ribbon)
John 76 2nd (red ribbon)
Mark 71 3rd (white ribbon)

Fresh from intense gaming experiences at GenCon, Curt brought one of the games he had discovered in while in Indianapolis. By this time Steve-O had arrived and, after being smoothly and persuasively convinced to try on a name tag, joined Mandi, Jennifer, Amy and, of course, Curt for the game. Curt found no honor in his island kingdom as Jennifer snatched victory in this play. Curt was a very close second and the others were a little further behind. Nevertheless, ribbons for all!

Score
Mandi 17 5th place (green ribbon)
Jennifer 37 1st place (blue ribbon)
Curt 36 2nd place (red ribbon)
Amy 23 4th place (yellow ribbon)
Steve-O 31 3rd place (white ribbon)

A fine way to wind down an evening of game playing--chop off some heads. The ill-fated nobles and quirky guards gathered and the line formed at Dr. Joseph's efficient device. When the three days had passed Mike had gathered the most points.

Score
Mike 22 pts 1st place (blue ribbon)
Amy 18 pts 2nd place (red ribbon)
Travis 16 pts 3rd place (white ribbon)
Shawn and Rick 14 pts tied for 4th place (yellow ribbon)

Finishing up were Steve-O and Curt squaring off in a two player game of Dominion. Steve-O held dominion over Curt in dominion doubling his score. All I know about the game is they played pretty fast.

Score
Steve-O 36 pts 1st place (blue ribbon)
Curt 18 pts 2nd place (red ribbon)
