My birthday was earlier in September but I wanted to create a geeklist to discuss the great games that I added to my collection as a result of this happy event.

This one was a present to myself. I had been researching this game for a while. I wanted a heavier game with a Renaissance theme and there were some rave reviews on BGG.

In August, I needed to purchase some games for my cousin's birthday so I decided to add this one to the list for free shipping.

So far I have only played once. I love the pieces, the theme and the rules seem pretty clear.

I look forward to more plays.

This one was also present to myself. Bruno Faidutti raves about this game. It seemed relatively short and suitable for novice/occasional gamers such as my parents.

This game was also purchases as part of the August shipment of games to round out free shipping.

So I played this game once with my parents so far. We all enjoyed the theme having lived in the South of France. The rules are pretty straightforward but there are many interesting choices to make. The randomness of the dice roll did not bother us at all. It actually reduced the brain burn in this game yet preserving meaningful decision-making.

It feels like I need to create some sort of scoring track for the end game because we were constantly recounting our totals. Knowing everyone's score affects end game decision making.

I am looking forward to playing this one more.

This one was a present from my parents.

Just before my birthday, I attended Gateway 2009 in Los Angeles and was introduced to Agricola for the first time.

I had stayed away from this game for a long time but like the farming theme so I decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed this at the conference. Having already learned Race for the Galaxy, I felt that I could handle a more complex game.

So, when my parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I asked for Agricola.

I have played one solo game so far and really enjoy it. I can't wait to play again and discover more of the game's potential.

This one was a present from my sister. She also knows I love games and was happy to join in on my parent's Agricola order.

I had been reading a lot about Sylla. I had been wanting a Roman themed game for a while and had considered Tribun. However, Ender's review of Sylla really got me excited but the lack of buzz around this game kept me away from it for a long time.

At Gateway 2009, the game was available at the game library and easily found 3 other players. One of them had played before and was happy to teach us.

Needless to say that Sylla was the most fun I had at Gateway 2009. The interactions are exciting and the theme is very well integrated in the game. This was a must have.

I have played one game since owning this game and had a great time. I am very happy with this present and look forward to playing it more and introducing friends to this jewel.
