The prominence of the Spinward Marches campaign for Traveller in the hotlist led to my being reminded of an interesting feature of its back cover art.

Please feel free to submit other examples of art that is "inspired by" or borrows from other works. Since this happens in comic book art with alarming frequency, I'm sure in the amateur world of some RPG publishing or board game cover art we can find other examples.

Look closely at the front end of the small spacecraft pictured on the back cover.

compare to this: (added new better shot)

This is actually a pretty subtle example. Plenty of modifications from the original source were made. I bet there are more obvious borrowings out there

This is a very old superhero game published in Australia.

I don't know if things have changed, but back in the 80s, Hero Games was unable to send their boxed set of Champions because it contained 6d6 and there was some law prohibiting import of dice on the grounds that they could be used for gambling...

So, to fill the void, locals published their own superhero RPG.

It featured a lot of dodgy artwork. There is one classic painting by Chris Achilleos that looks like this:

In this game, their example characters all stand just like that. (even the guys)

Also, I remember from high school, that there was a muscle chart in the weight room that looked like this:

and one of the interior illos had a female superhero posing like, well, you get the idea...

Acording to this http://www.acaeum.com/forum/about5308-0-asc-0.html, Greg Bell borrowed some of the structure of his art from Marvel Comics
