Sekigahara was the largest and most important battle in medievile Japan.
It practically ended the era of warlords. Ieyasu Tokugawa defeated the Western army under Mitsunari Ishida at Sekigahara October 21st, 1600.

Though the Toyotomi is finally defeated in Osaka several years later, practically it is a kind of epilogue after the main story.

In 2009, we have 3 new Sekigahara boardgame in Japan. So, I decided to make this list.

The second game of Vander Meulen's Sengoku Jidai series includes three scenarios, one of which is Sekigahara.

This system and its chit-pull clan activation mechanism provide an excellent foundation, and this particular scenario is packed with a lot of carefully-crafted details. For example, there are separate betrayal tracks for various clans nominally on the Western side, and rules governing Naomasa Ii's charge and Tokugawa firing on Kobayakawa's camp.

Issue game of Game Journal64.
Designed by Yasutaka Ikeda.

In short, this is a variation of "Few acres of snow".
But, most cards are clan cards not location cards.

This game is not a specific Sekigahara game.
But, since this game covers the essence of Sengoku-era, this game can be categorized in this geeklist.

EDIT: Not sure how this was added as the #2 game on the list...

The real classic in 1981.
The Epoch's world wargame series was a real hit and breakthrough in Japanese wargames. This one is the most difficult game. Even though its difficulties, this was really a big hit.
This game made the common sense that Sekigahara game must cover not only the military situation but also the political and diplomatic situation.

Republished from Sunset games.

One of issue games of Game Journal #32.
Designed by Tetsuya Nakamura.
In this game, Nakamura tries to make a new type Sekigahara game suitable for solitaire.

The game mechanics is unique.
You must turn one card from the deck and follow the instruction. This procedure is repeated until you draw the card "Ieyasu moves". Then, the turn is finished after the movement of Ieyasu. This procedure makes solitaire play easy. Because you must focus the current action described by the card and you never know what will happen next.

1 map
90 counters
16 cards
according to the specification, this game can be finished within 2 hours.

I just released a free print and play tactical battle game featuring the battle of Sekigahara.

It's a bit lighter than other games listed here, but worth having a look if you want a fast tactical experience for 2 players.

All the files are available and free to download, and you have the choice of making stand up playing pieces, chits, or stickers to put on blocks.
