Going to print this month - get your preorder in now!

Incidentally, I was right in my prognostication - it hit over 1000 preorders well before Halloween, and over 100 new orders in October.

Back to double digit growth. Slotted for a January 2010 release.

From GMT's site:
GBoH ventures back into the mists of time, into an area of military history that has seen little coverage by the hobby: The Bronze Age, or the Age of the Chariot. From approximately 1700 BCE to 1200, the abrupt end of The Bronze Age, the chariot reigning supreme on the battlefield. It was the first “modern’ weapon system, and chariots controlled most of warfare until actual cavalry appeared in the middle of The Iron Age.

But how did chariots work as a tactical weapon system? There is no complete agreement on what they did, or how they were used, but CHARIOTS OF FIRE will show you our view of the many applications – and many types of chariotry - there were, providing GBoH-ers with the complete and definitive chariot rules . . . from combat to mobility, from the first battle wagons of the Sumerians to the two-man, fast-moving light chariots of the Egyptians, often complete with specialized Runner Infantry, to the heavy 3-man Hittite wheels.

Components:
2 and 1/2 game-maps, back-printed
3 sheets of multi-color counters
Rulebook
Scenario Book
Charts and Tables

Slotted for release in December 2009.

My comment: I'm looking forward to this expansion. My goal it to play at least one scenario from each CC:E module in 2010.

From GMT's site:
Combat Commander: Battle Pack #3: Normandy is the third themed collection of scenarios for use with the Combat Commander: Europe series of games. The theme of this third Battle Pack shifts to the West Front in June, July and August 1944 as various Allied forces landed on French soil to fight the occupying German forces. CC: Normandy features seventeen new scenarios printed on cardstock -- one of which is a multi-scenario Campaign Game -- as well as eight new maps, added markers necessary for some of the scenarios and a new feature to the series: a majority of the leader counters represent individuals who fought in the depicted actions.

Steady growth for this one.

I'm tempted to hop on to the bandwagon, but I haven't even scratched the surface on all the CC:E and CC in my house...

From the designer of Combat Commander:Europe - check it out at GMT's site here. http://www.gmtgames.com/c-29-fighting-formations.aspx

Fighting Formations is an ongoing series of games, each one focusing on several battles of a particular formation during World War II. The first title in the series is "Grossdeutschland Infantry Division." Future titles aren't yet set in stone but could be devoted to other famous divisions (Big Red One), Corps (Afrika Korps), regiments (442nd RCT), Commando troops, Ranger battalions, etc.

The scale of the game is 75 meters per hex with turns representing about 5 minutes of real time. Units are squads, guns with their inherent crews, and individual vehicles. Platoons are also employed.

The game has card Assets -- including such things as artillery, air support or demolitions -- but is not card-driven. It is also not the typical Igo-Yougo fare with a strict sequence of play. Instead, the base game engine is an impulse-type back and forth mechanic whereby the various Orders carry with them a certain cost in Initiative, with the person having the most Initiative at any given time being able to take the next action on the map.

This first game has the following components:

4 22" x 34" back-printed mapsheets
5 countersheets
55 cards
24-page series rulebook
48-page playbook
an 8.5" x 22" track display
several cardstock player aids
dice: 2d6, 2d8, 2d10, 2d12 & 2d20
10 wooden cubes
1 wooden pawn

Regular Price: $85.00
P500 Price: $59.00

Back to double digit growth.

Normandy games seem to be making a comeback in terms of demand, with the release of The Battle for Normandy and the CC:E battle pack above.

There are some AMAZING sceenshots on GMT's page: http://gmtgames.com/p-237-normandy-44.aspx - if you haven't preordered yet, check them out.

From GMT:
Normandy '44 is a 2-player, regimental level game of the D-Day landings on June 6th and the battles that raged in Normandy for the next 21 days. During this crucial period the Germans had their only chance to push back the Allied invasion before the preponderance of Allied men and material made the outcome certain.

Each turn represent 1 day. Each hex represents 3.8 kilometers (or 2.3 miles). Most units are regiments or brigades, but most of the armor units are represented as battalions.

The game uses a simplified Ardennes '44 system: Move, Fight and Reserve Movement. All non-tank battalion units are rated for Troop Quality, while all armor units have a Tank Rating. In each battle these ratings are used to provide shifts for either the attacker or defender. Other important shifts are provided by air power, naval support and artillery.

Components:

Normandy '44 will include:
1 22x34 inch map
2 and a half sets of counters (9/16s size)
3 player aid cards
1 rule booklet
1 die

Regular Price: $55.00
P500 Price: $38.00

After endless months of double digit growth, this one has stalled.

The fifth installment of the Musket and Pike series, and it looks like a good entry point for those who've not played yet.

I think this series is brilliant, and that "battle pack" expansions like the ones for Combat Commander would work well after this release.

The scenario information has been updated on GMT's site: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-242-nothing-gained-but-glory.aspx

My comment: I've played a few of the musket & pike series of games, and I'm looking forward to adding this one to my collection. What I really enjoy about this series is that you really get a good feel of the strengths and weaknesses of the various troops and empires of the period, and the various battles are all intriguing in their own right.

From GMT's site:
This volume features several pivotal battles in Baltic region of the late 17th century - a period where rulers struggled to centralize power in their realms, and to introduce permanent standing armies instead of expensive mercenary forces. It shows the highly trained and well led army of Sweden struggling to defend its massive gains from the Thirty Years War and the Northern Wars of 1655-1661 against the forces of Denmark and Brandenburg, reinforced by contingents from Austria, the United Provinces, Münster, Hesse-Kassel and Poland.

Nearly all the scenarios in this module are smaller than the typical Musket & Pike scenario, and thus take less time and space to play. For the same reasons it is a great introductory game to the series.

Components:

2.5 map sheets, 2 of which are backprinted
3 counter sheets (840 counters)
Musket and Pike Battle Series Rulebook
Nothing Gained But Glory Playbook
3 Player aid cards
1 10-sided die

Makes up for its drop last month and almost joins the 600 club at the same time.

My comment: I've become very fond of war card games, and this one looks like it'll be a big hit once it gets to my table.

Sun of York is a fairly unusual game in that there is no map per se, instead there are terrain cards that make up the map.

Sun of York is a professional production of a previosly DTP game, some some very nice artwork.

Take a look at the game's page, there is a video demo for the game. http://www.gmtgames.com/p-128-sun-of-york.aspx

Components include 220 cards, player aid sheets, one sheet of 140 status markers, and five six-sided dice.
Playtime runs an hour or two.

Regular Price: $55.00
P500 Price: $39.00

Second month of 6 new orders.

My comment: The SCW fascinates me, and I already have two titles in my collection about this conflict so am unlikely to add this one, but there's been a lot of good buzz. I recently reread Orwell's Homage to Catalonia too.

The full campaign runs 6 hours, there are a number of 2-3 hour scenarios included.

The playtest rules are available on the game's GMT page.

From GMT's site:

The Spanish Civil War is a quick playing, moderately complex operational simulation of this war. Brigade-Divisional level, monthly turns for the first phase of the war and bimonthly turns from November 1936 until the end of the war. 480 1/2" counters and 1 big hex map. One grand campaign and multiple scenarios, including some What-if? scenarios speculating with WW2 beginning in September 1938 or a hypothetical Axis invasion of Spain and Portugal in 1941-42, complete with German Panzers, the Portuguese army, or British and Free French expeditionary forces.

Components

One 34"x22" mapsheet (large hexes)
480 ½” counters

2 dice
Player Aid Cards

First of the games that have not yet "made the cut"

Current Preorders: 483 (+18)

Ninth month on the P500 for Ted Raicer's new game.

My comment: If it grows as much in November as it did in October, it'll be in the top half of the list next time.

This game is about the fantastic and unexpected German success in conquering France in the opening years of WWII.

Case Yellow includes a twist on chit activation - the German chits allow the player to choose whether to use a movement or combat phase. Allied chits, reflecting their less flexible command structure, are good for only one or the other.

Components:

One 22 x 34 inch full color map
One 11 x 17 Full color Fortress Holland Introductory Scenario card
Two 9/16 inch counter sheets
Rule and scenario booklet
Two identical player aid cards
Two six-sided dice

After four months it hit 400, but now we're in the waiting for magic 500 to make the cut. However, 19 is respectable for its fifth month.

From GMT's website:

The Supreme Commander is a game designed for 2-5 players covering the entirety of World War II in the European Theater of Operations (ETO), from September 1939 to the end of the war. While there are plenty of other ETO games out there, The Supreme Commander effectively models all of the primary aspects of the war in a simple, straight-forward manner.

Murmansk convoy, Lend-Lease, diplomacy, the strategic U-Boat campaign, technological advancement, strategic bombing campaigns, naval invasions, the economy and military production, partisans – All of these elements and more are included in a surprisingly easy-to-learn game.

That is not to say that The Supreme Commander is some sort of compromise, surrendering historical accuracy for simplicity. The game delivers a detailed order of battle and meticulously researched economic and diplomatic system which allows players to play out the historical military campaigns of the war as well as the “what ifs” that may have happened. It is entirely up to the players – the system is open-ended and does not restrict players to the exact decisions of the past.

Play time will vary, but the campaign game generally will be a weekend long game that will rarely play the same way twice.

A campaign game and two shorter scenarios are included.

Note: We are doing much of the final system and balance testing of this game online using a (beautiful) Vassal module. We are definitely interested in additional testers who are new to the game at this stage. If you are interested in helping out, please contact developer Paul Marjoram at pmarjora@gmail.com.

Components:

* Rulebook
* (2) 24x36 maps with large hex pattern (one map is back-printed with a standard size 5/8" hex version so you can play the whole game on one map - for you guys with limited table space)
* Diplomatic Track (cardstock)
* Player aid card
* 560 Counters (Corps and Army-sized units)
* 6 x Force Pool cards for France, UK, US, USSR, Italy, Germany
* 2 ten-sided dice

Regular Price: $65.00
P500 Price: $45.00
