Another Geeklist got me thinking that there are towns I've driven through that likely don't have any gamers living in them. You know the places: used to have a drive in, the town square only has two sides, and the only gas station appears to have closed. You might have to drive to a game store in a big city because UPS doesn't deliver where you live. Cards, checkers, chess (for you Eastern Europeans), and drinking do not count as games for this list.

So come on, tell us what its like to live in a one-gamer town!

I will confess that I did not live in a one-gamer town (at least I didn't think Irving, Texas was a one-gamer town). However, back in the '70's when I found an SPI magazine, you would have thought I was hiding porn. Friends and family all wonder why I would spend night after night with some map and counters spread out all over the floor. I think that everyone would have let a sigh of relief if it had been porn. I learned that wargaming was not a safe topic of conversation, so for all I knew, I was the only gamer in town.

I live in Salinas, CA. The Salad Bowl of the World.

For the longest time, I knew of no boardgamers in Salinas. Either Monterey Peninsula or the Bay Area. I ran into some RPGers at Kublacon from Salinas.

Recently a gentleman who plays wargames moved about 3 blocks away. Now I at least know at least one other gamer in town

Well I don't live in a one gamer town just yet but in January I move to Park Falls, WI. and according to the find gamer feature the nearest gamers are 50 miles away. A year after that I move to Guam on which I see no records for gamers. Anybody know of anyone there?

The worst thing about living in my town is the only local toy store says he has a game store but knows zip about games.
All he carries is multiple games of Monopoly, Clue and Settlers and thinks he's good.
I remember when he finally got Smallworld in and he couldn't keep it on the shelf, when I was bringing it up to the register he commented on how he should order more than 1 or 2 at a time.

It is really hard to find people to play with too, all my game friends are family or people i've known for 20 years.
