As I'm fairly new to the hobby I'm still building a solid collection, and I do this more carefully than before. I read up on games I'm interested in and I keep looking for new mechanics or variations on mechanics I really like. With this geeklist I hope to be introduced to some new high quality games to explore, as people add only their top wanted games, so feel free to add yours! I'll start off with my 6 must have games and expansions.
Ticket to Ride: Europe is the only game I rate a 10, so far. Is has proven its replayability with over 50/60 plays and I still enjoy this game tremendously. With new tickets the already high replayability can only increase. When this expansion was announced, it was an instant must-have!
I have my eye on this one for a while now. I played some games of Attack and Warcraft with one of my friends and while I enjoyed these games I felt I needed something else. I asked for recommendations based on what I liked and did not like with these two games and this game was mentioned a lot. I really like the fantasy warfare theme, so it caught my eye. I also noticed the 80 page rulebook, but I gave it a try anyway and it just sounds amazing. Exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to try it this weekend, and my guess is I'll be picking this one up next week, along with TtR: Europe 1912.
I really enjoy worker placement games, like Stone Age and Agricola. I like the idea of special roles in Pandemic. But I don't have a role selection game yet and this one is mixed with worker placement mechanics as well. I love the theme and the fact that your workers might have to duel for actions sounds great! It's probably already different enough from the worker placement games I already own, but it also adds some area control elements, as well.
I've played the base game a lot and I really enjoy it. But after repeated plays I feel that just adding more epidemics is not what I need for adding difficulty. Therefore I'm really looking forward to play with the new variants! The new roles are a nice extra, as well.
I added this to my must haves, but I plan to wait with buying it. There is still a lot of replayability left with just the base game, with 3 types of card decks and I'm still discovering the first. But everything this expansion adds sounds just so great!
My wishlist is voluminous. I like to give my 3 (Global, ANZAC, PnP) Santas lots to choose from. But my must-have group is for the games I truly crave. As an expatriate Dutchman with a train fetish (see MB below left), this one was in the Must-have category before I knew anything about it.
This game is the other one at the top of my list, and I've even played it!
I regret not P500'ing this series, but I couldn't do it without having played it. When I finally got to try, it was too late. So I'm relying on Santa/Hanukah Harry/Kwanzaa Kim to put an ancients smile on my face!
The rest of my Must-haves start with this pre-splotter about public transport,
and this solo game that will be great for my long-haul flights,
and this beautiful sim I hope to play with my father and brothers over the coming holidays.
