A few weeks ago I ran a youth lock-in with my youth group. We had 35 teens (13-18). 16 guys and 19 girls. We stayed up until 3:30am playing games and eating pizza. Here are the games we played!

Do you have any other games that you have played with a large group of teens? Add them to the list!

I started off the night with a Wits and Wagers game. We had 7 5-person teams. They each needed to come up with a name that had their team color in the name. We got the Orange Radioactive Hedgehogs, the Purple Cobras, and so on.
1. We did not use the poker chips, instead only allowing teams to bet with their original 2 tokens.
2. Scores were written on a whiteboard next to me as I ran it.

This was a big hit. Teams made it less intimidating for new kids, and the close battle for 1st place (I think by not using the poker chips) made it very exciting.

35 might be more than this game was meant to handle. There were several kids that just could not figure out what was going on. Despite that, everyone had fun pointing fake guns at each other.

We broke down into smaller groups and kids could choose what they wanted to play. I got 7-8 to join me with this game. It's a print and play game that's a mix of Werewolf, Ca$h and Gun$, and Mastermind. The kids were confused the first game or so, but really got into it after that. I left after teaching them the first game, and they played 5 or 6 after that.

I really hate this game, however it is THE party game for teens and college kids. While I didn't play it, most of the kids spent an hour with Apples to Apples while the other played The Resistance.

This was their first time playing werewolf (New England is a Mafia playing region). We ran two simultaneous games with 17-18 kids in each one. The new characters are great, but there is always a kid that forgets who they are or what their power is. My main complaint with these games in general is that it's pretty boring for the first few people voted off or killed.

After the first game we switched half the people from each group with the other group.

We had 3 copies of Jungle Speed for a jungle speed tournament. We had 3 simultaneous games going on with 10-12 kids. Instead of one person winning when they grab the totem w/ no cards left in their deck, the person with the most cards left at that point is eliminated. Once we had enough "losers" we went down to 2 tournament games, and one losers bracket. Then we went down to 1 tournament game and 2 losers games. That worked well to keep everyone playing, even after losing.

They said that "it's like spoons, only more fun."

I have played this with 20+ teenagers before, and it went really well. Speaking from experience though, you will need extra paper because no matter how many times you tell them to draw small someone on the first drawing round will use the entire piece of paper.

I've used this game with great success when running events with lots of people.

Once it's set up, and you teach a few people how it goes, the game continues on its own momentum, with people who are between games joining in, learning it from previous players.

This game uses mechanics similar to Apples to Apples. The basic difference is that you take cartoons that are printed on t-shirt shaped cards, then each player selects a slogan that they think best matches the 'toon. We introduced the game to our teens at church, and they loved it. It helps that most of the 'toons are pretty goofy anyway, so the game is good for a lot of laughs.

Even played with more kids of lower age. Thrown away the board and counters, just used the cards rearranging how teams scored and people came in turns to describe words to be guessed.

Same process as Taboo. Even made on the spot giving to each boy/girl one sheet of paper to be divided in 8, to write 6 words on 6 leaflets and 2 starts of stories on the other two.

I have played this game with my relatives, and there were quite a number of us divided into 4 teams (20+ players), from young children to grandparents.

Since the game involves a wide variety of skills, it lets different players shine in different activities.

Though the game is designed for just four teams, you could probably add a handful of other playing pieces and play with more teams. For example: 7 teams of 5 players each would cover your 35 teenagers.
