Yeah, it's not even Halloween, but just like JC Penney's, I'm already gearing up for the Christmas giving season. Let's all agree to blame Tom Vasel for being good enough to begin organizing Secret Santa 2009 and thus getting my mind on the upcoming giftiness. Take that, Tom!

So for fun, I decided to make a geeklist of games I'm planning to give this Christmas. The recipients are not yet Geekdo'ers, so I've got no worries about spoiling their surprises. And it gives me a chance to bask in the excitement of plotting their gifts (and some of the excitement of playing them with my friends whistle ).

Feel free to add your own and celebrate the gaming goodness we're all going to spread this season!

Merry Christmas... in two months!!!

The main reason I'm doing this list is because I decided to give out a game to each of the couples in our regular game group, so let's start there!

One of our game groupies, E, is a real (but pseudo-closted) sci-fi nerd. The group actually began out of getting together to watch Battlestar Galactica each week on Sunday. Please don't ask about the difficulty in not watching the Friday episodes until Sunday. However, once BS:G ended, what were we to do with our Sunday evenings? The answer, of course, was start playing Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, which I bought just for her. As with every one who plays the game, we loved it.

Browsing through her Netflix ratings, I found that she also loves Blade Runner. So for Christmas, she'll be getting another science fiction themed game. I've got it already, and I think my eyes are burning through the shrink. Having never played it, I hope she'll like it beyond just the theme (I think she will). Her husband, J, however, is usually along for the ride, so he'll like it as well, though its clearly purchased more for his geekier half.

Our other game night regulars, J & G, have sort of divergent interests in gaming. While J would likely be happy to get some BattleLore expansions, mostly BattleLore: Heroes Expansion, his wife is more into party games (Anyone else know a wife like that?). However, they both share a love of Puerto Rico, and having read reviews and impressions, it makes me feel like Endeavor would be a good fit. All the buzz about and a zillion drooling geeks can't be wrong, right?

My brother, on the other hand, is decidedly not a board game geek. However, I slipped a compy of Carcassonne into his birthday gift, and he mentioned that he really likes it and plays it with the guys at work. So rather than dumping a brainburner game on him, I'll ease him into it with this.

I also want to get him one or two more expansions for Carcassonne. I'm thinking about Carcassonne: Expansion 2 – Traders & Builders, but anyone else have suggestions?

Hey, maybe he won't spend this Christmas screaming obscenities at me (alright, that was only that one year)!

This one is so far a maybe, but I think it will make a good stocking stuffer for my wife. She isn't fanatical about games but will definitely indulge me in playing almost everything. She has vowed to never play Battlelore with me, but really enjoys Race for the Galaxy and Dominion.

I've played Lost Cities and know it doesn't have the depth of either of these two games, but my wife likes simple, quick games that don't require a ton of thought for short sessions. I think it seems perfect, but I'll have to keep scouting about.

I'd be happy to take further suggestions here, as well!

This one's for the kids. My 5 year old really loves games, especially Carcassonne and Dominion. And yes, he's beaten both me and my wife at both when we weren't even throwing our games. We give him strategy advice ("If you put that tile there you will only be helping Daddy" "Which should you play first, the Village or the Witch? Why?"), but he won't need it for long.

I've played Zooloretto on the iPhone and it seems like the fun family game for all of us. It's simple enough for the young 'uns, and yet deep enough to hold interest as a filler for game night. Win win win all around.

And let's not forget that someone will be getting a present from me for BGG Secret Santa 2009! This is maybe the one I'm most excited for, as it's my first year in Secret Santa. Also, it'll be a total blast to hunt through someone else's wish list with the intention of fulfilling a wish or two. How is that not fabtastic?

Well, I guess it won't be if their wishlist if filled with spinoffs of Monopoly, or expansions for that dreadful Catan game...

Also, if you haven't signed up, head over and join Secret Santa 2009 to get in on the fun!
