The disco of gaming
GW is the disco of gaming.Recommend
When you no longer love it, it's not enough that you move on to something else, first you must hate and destroy your past love - in some cases violently protesting and denying that you'd ever enjoyed it.
Remember back around 1980 when they had those "disco infernos" where people who hated disco showed up and burned their disco albums and disco clothes? Yes, their own disco albums and their own disco clothes.
I never understood why they were suddenly so violently opposed to something that they had loved so much.
Then I realized that it was about groupthink and belonging to the herd. When their herd was all listening to disco, they listened to disco, bought disco albums, and went disco dancing.
Kids who didn't like disco, or who only liked a few disco songs were treated like crap, because they weren't part of the herd.
Then, suddenly, the herd started to hate disco, and yesterday's favorite album became tomorrow's bonfire bait. If you didn't go to the disco inferno, you weren't cool. It wasn't enough to move on to loving something else, you had to hate disco, and do it publicly. "Disco is stupid" they cried, as they threw their cherished albums into the pyre. "Disco sucks!" they cried, as they taunted and bullied the kid who still liked that one BeeGee's song.
"Disco sucks - only an idiot would listen to that" they said, as they burned their disco albums, trying to destroy all evidence that they had once loved disco.
