We played for the 1st time with both Cursed and Grand Dames. Cursed Wizards came out as the 2nd race. Krista was first to go and took the Hill Priestesses, not needing to skip over the Wizards. I then skipped over the Wizards to grab the Dragon Master Humans getting a couple fields. Barry decided to bite the bullet and take the Cursed Wizards which he declined on his second turn. Mike grabbed the Historian Giants first, while David got the Peace-loving Halflings. In round six, I picked up my favorite race Skeletons who were even better since they were mounted! I ploughed through Krista’s Marauding Ratmen, forcing her to go into decline with them and remove her Ivory Tower of Priestesses. In the end though, my Skeletons were too much.

We pulled out No Thanks to fill the time until Troy arrived, but he arrived early and played with us. Barry had a ton of tokens, but not enough matches.

Another recent addition to the game collection was Leonardo Da Vinci. I’ve played this game 4 or 5 times before this outing winning all but one and that one only losing by 1 point, so coming into this one I was feeling confident, especially with every else nearly new to the game. However, I felt behind the 8 ball this whole game. I started off with favors of money, a new lab, and an apprentice, only completing 3 works the whole game and only actually getting one card. Barry had at least two rounds where he completed 2 works. Mike got burned a several times in the worker placements, one time not getting anything for his troubles for a complete round! Everyone though in the end David might challenge Barry for the victory, but he just didn’t have the money the last rounds to get works done. It was a close game…for second.

The fishing village was the only duration card, with Spy and Ghost Ship the two attack cards.

Keythedral is one of those games that I love when I play it, but for some reason I don’t play it often. It is one of the meanest Euro games out there, which is why I like it a lot. Just in tonight’s game I was able to destroy a house, knock down fences, build fences, and change up the final tile that was being bought to something else (though Barry cancelled that one). In the last turn I bid one resource to get to go first and paid it to Troy, as it turns out that was the difference in the game. Can’t wait to play this one again!

While Ken ran to get a diet coke and Krista fed the baby, Barry taught me the game of Cribbage. Though I’m still a bit confused about the strategy in the game and the right things to do, I think I got the scoring down. I enjoyed it and would like to play it again.

All day we were planning on getting this to the table with the Farmers of the Moor expansion and finally about 10pm we did. At 12:30, the dust settled in at the end of the epic game. Early on Ken took the special action cards often, getting a lead on everyone in resources. It was looking like he might run away with the game until Krista built two rooms and was up to 4 people before we knew it, while the rest of us were still at 2 people. I was able to get two rooms built before Ken, which meant he had to continue to wait, propelling Krista into the perceived lead with a perfect looking farm full of fields and fences. However the last round ended badly for her with 3 people finishing in the infirmary, because of her drafty clay house. I played the Mason and the Master Builder, moving my house up two 6 stone rooms. Ken had 9 points in cards, but several empty spaces on his board. Barry had a rough game, grabbing two begging cards one turn, but never being able to get the card out that cancels them out.
