who let life get in the way of his gaming.

We were trying to arrange some pre-holiday gaming and get in a 4 player play of Britannia and we had agreed to do it before the 19th when Dion kids got how from collage and after the 15th when Rob was free. We had agreed on the 18th but the Dion said he had to work and was to busy planning for a wedding or something lame like that. Rob managed to find us a 4th player from the endless horde of Warhammer 40k players he knows and so we were set for a great day.

We started with a new game for me. Rob's friend Mark was going to come a little later but his roommate Paul was still there and he joined us for our first game.

The game was quick and clever. The treasure collection reminded me Diamant a little as you have decide to take the treasure you have or press your luck for a better treasure. The logic puzzle of adding clues to each treasure was interesting but not as strategic as I had hoped when I first saw it.

I thought I was doing well but Rob's roomate Paul keep setting Rob up and he pulled it out by one point, curse you Rob and your little roommate too!

Final Score:
Rob: 28
Steve: 27
Paul: 16
Greg: 10

Board, at the end of the game:

Games won:
Rob: 1
Steve: 0
Greg: 0
Dion: Null, because he was not here!

After lunch, which was some great left over Italian food we were ready for the Marque game of the day. Bring on Britannia. I had only played Blue and was itching to try the Romans. Rob took Blue and we gave Greg green and Mark red. Greg and Mark had never played before.

It was a very close game.

Rob played Blue and got a lot of points from the Belgae for attacking the Romans. Managed to score good points from the Picts through most of the game despite heavy pressure from the Romans and the Scotts. Did well with the Angles, especially taking out Aurthor and did almost perfect with the Normans ending the game by cutting through the Saxons to reduce them enough that he was declared King and earn the points needed to win the game.

Greg played Green. The welsh were mostly uncontested for the whole game with some minor conflict with the Irsih. The Caledonians did ok until the Norseman came in and wiped them out, if they could have held out a little longer I think he would have won. The Jutes didn't do very much, as expected and the Danes got big points.

I played yellow. I did good with the Romans at first but I stretched to far and I should have attack the Belgae some more as the devastated my forts. I did really well with the Romano British except letting Author get killed but I had him stacked with 2 cav and 3 infantry but it was not enough. I did very well with the Scotts, almost wiping out the Picts but then I could not hold my position and they pushed me back. I did ok with the Dubliners and the Norwegians but the mutual destruction in March and the death of Harald both hurt. I was still in good position to win if Rob and Greg had done a better job of stopping each other.

Mark played Red. He got worked as the Brigantes with the one, two punch of Roman and Scotts. The Irish started off well but made some ill-advised mountain attacks, he still managed to hang around well with them. The Norse did great, wiping out the Caledonians and raiding along the coast. He also did really well with the Saxons, in part because he was far behind at this point so where possible we were all looking for other targets but the huge population boost of south England keep him strong.

The Final score was:
Rob(blue): 236
Greg(Green): 232
Steve(Yellow): 215
Mark(Red): 189

A very close and satisfying game.

Games won
Rob: 2
Steve: 1
Greg: 0
Dion: Null, because he was not here!

Mark had never tried Settlers and was interested in trying as he had been a great sport and played through a 5 hour game of Britannia how could we say no.

Greg went with his development card strategy and managed to pull off longest road and largest army for the win. There was also a serious sheep shortage for the whole game invoking many offers of wood for sheep.

Games won:
Rob: 2
Steve: 1
Greg: 1
Dion: Null, because he was not here!

This game has been sitting in my closet for years and I have bene carrying it around for month now hoping to get it played. I new Rob was a fan of crayan rails so I thought it would go over good. After 15 minute of razing at how bad the components are and that I had to read the rules for the rulebook we were underway. I had reviewed the rules the night before along with Britania but I was still fuzzy on a few things.

Rob really didn't like the shared vp for cities, many comments about the communist Incans, threat to report the game to Glenn Beck and building away from the rest of us left him way behind. The rest of us were neck and neck until the Third to the last round when Greg started to pull ahead. Going in to the last round it was down to Greg and I. I had more money and was better positioned but the game ended after only one round and I could not catch him. Greg won!

Games won:
Rob: 2
Steve: 1
Greg: 2
Dion: Null, because he was not here!

Another new game for me. A game of exploring unknown countries, looking for gold and then having it stolen by your friends before you can do anything about it. It was a clever game with lots of logstics to get what you need when you need it and a bit of maneuvering to keep your gold from getting stolen.

In the end my Dynimite proved to be the deciding factor with Greg wanting to off his horse.

Games won:
Rob: 2
Steve: 2
Greg: 2
Dion: Null, because he was not here!

I would say Rob was the big winner for the night winning Britannia and denying me Tobago by 1 point. The big loser, well you can't win if you don't play.
