As a little Christmas present to myself, I'll be picking up a few games here shortly. Most of what I have played and or bought in the last year has come from the top of the list. I'd like to shake that up a bit though. Therefore, give me a really good sell on some great games that aren't front page favorites that I should be buying.

For fun, I'll start it off with one I already own.
Current Rank: 63
Acquire is a game that is almost 50 years old yet it still stands the test of time. Basically, you draw and place tiles to create and then eventually merge hotel chains. You buy stock in these chains, expand them, and often decide if they get gobbled up or become the next big thing. There is some luck in the tile draw, but the tactical short term manuvers for cash flow coupled with long term stragey in trying to be top dog in the mega chains at the end of the game are a really nice and fun balance. Anyone that likes good stragey with a touch of luck and who doesn't mind paper money, would do very well to add Acquire to their collection. There's also a nice feeling of enjoying one of the true classics by a designer who was clearly ahead of his time.

Clocking in at #173. I recently rediscovered this game....

CMC is:

Fast- can play a 3 or 4 player game in an hours or so
You get 80% of the Caylus experience for about 30% of the effort.
Portable: Easy to slip into another box for a trip or carry on it's own.
Good depth of strategy with several different paths to victory.
Very easy to teach
Fun
Some ability to affect the other players games without outright conflict.

Okay, I'll add something. You seem like you like a game with a learning curve. You rate Agricola and Chess very highly. You also seem to think Pandemic is pretty good, so I'd guess you are willing to play a co-op. That's why I say you should try Ghost Stories.

I hope this helps!
