While perusing the games, I noticed that each has a number identifier so I wondered what my zip code was. And then what the previous zip code was....and so forth. When I looked at them, most of them tied in with that moment in my life in some odd way. Here then, is my life in games.

What is the coolest, oddest or best game you have lived in and does it tie back into that moment in your life?

I was born in Shirley, Massachusetts on an Army base (which is long gone now). I guess the game became Trio after I arrived...

After my Dad was stationed in Germany (no game that high, yet) we moved into a trailer near my Mom's family in New Albany, Indiana. Not exactly the 'Bible Belt' but dang close...

Now a Munchkin of about 3 years old, we moved in with my Dad's parents in Rochester NY. He gets a job at Kodak (as did the rest of that side of the family).

We moved into a townhouse in Ogden, NY that would take pets and this is where I got my first dog. I don't remember many hills though...

In 1989, I went off to college for a Bachelors of Science in Marine Science in Conway, SC. Quite a culture shift too and lots of new people to meet.

I had met my fiance in the summer before coming to college and proposed to her a year later. We moved in together and lived in some other places in Conway before moving to a townhouse in Surfside Beach, SC after I finished up college. We got our first dog, Coal here. I'd almost like to say we had a guy break in and steal stuff while we lived here, but that didn't happen.

9 years later and we are currently living in our first house closer to Conway, now with a new dog, a cat and our beautiful daughter, Caitlin. Big game room and a fenced-in back yard overlooking a pond. There is even a gate in the fence too.

This is the game for my current zip code. It's somewhat apropos.

A few years ago, someone asked me if a was a "trekkie" (and I realize that I use this term at the risk of offending those who prefer the term "trekker"). I vehemently denied it.

Accusing me of being a trekkie brought to mind that skit on Saturday Night Live in which William Shatner, after fielding several obscure questions at a Star Trek convention, advises the ersatz vulcan-eared, green-skinned and starfleet-uniformed nerdy throng to "get a life!"

But then I got to thinking.

Having grown up with Star Trek, of course I was intimately familair with all the episodes of the original series. I would easily recognize a Gorn, and I know how to make a homemade bazooka if I ever come up against one.

I realized that I had been a fan and follower not only of the original series, but also of the various incarnations, on both the big screen and small, that the original has spawned. In addition, in the course of reading a lifetime's worth of science fiction, I've probably read at least three dozen of those sometimes pulpy but yet guiltily entertaining Star Trek novels.

While I was engaged in this train of thought, my eyes glanced upon a framed movie poster for "Star Trek Insurrection" on my office wall. Not the best of the movies, I know. For my money, Khan's soliloquy (a la Melville) -- "...from Hell's heart, I stab at thee!" -- can't be beat. Still, my framed poster is numbered, features an actual piece of film from the movie and has internal backlighting by which you can see the pictures on the cels. I found it in a bargain bin at some chain store and I bought it, I told myself at the time, because it was cheap and might someday be a valuable collectible.

Thinking further, I realized that among the pictures I have on a photo rolodex on my desk is a picure of me at some museum (can't remember exactly where) in a display wherein you can pose with cut-out figures of Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

I then realized that I have, in conversation, compared Kirk, Spock and McCoy to Socrates' analogy of the white horse, black horse and charioteer, to the parent, child and adult model of transactional anlaysis, to the id, ego and superego.

Am I a trekkie? I can tell myself that all these Star Trek associations are merely the detritus that would accumulate in any middle-aged adult's life. But who am I kidding?

I was born here. Pretty much the rest of the Zip Codes I have lived in are in the western US and there are no numbers that high in the DB.
