My Dad was not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination. He would have 90 years old next year and was in his 60's when we would have sat around the kitchen table for our games. If Mom pulled out Scrabble or a deck of cards Dad was outta there. However there were some games that he would play. I found it interesting that he often won at these. Are there any other Games that Dads just seemed really good at?

Dad had this thing that he would do, where he would talk about how to avoid the post while it was my turn. Invariably I hit the post quite often when I played with him.

Crib was what we would play when I got home from school or we had a few minutes to spare. Very fond memories of this game

My dad was not a big-time game-player, but he loved Yahtzee and Wa-Hoo. I understand he really got into Canasta in the 1940's, while I was a young whippersnapper, even joining a regular weekly card club group. I enjoyed playing games with him, while he was still alive.

We used to play a variation called Fire. It was my dad, my uncle, myself and a fourth playing at my uncle's place. We woudl drink five star (I was 16+ at the time) and play cards on weekends until about 2 AM.

They were some of my fondest memories growing up.

Wow. Good topic! My Dad taught me Avalon Hill's "Stalingrad" as my first war-game. Very good memories. First learned what a "soak-off" was!

My father played backgammon with me in the evenings when I was a teenager; when I won a copy of this in a Scrabble contest(!) we switched to Focus every night for months. Other games he plays are Bridge at the local club and Scrabble with the family; no interest despite my vague prompting in German-type games.

When I think if Dad and games... When I was very young he would offer once per game (when he chose) to switch sides. Meant I could win occasionally. I still remember the first time I beat him without the handicap...

I played Acquire with my dad in the mid-late '70's. He loved this game and was extremely good at it too. I think I beat him only once. We both learned the game together and he caught on much quicker than I did!

Dad taught me to play this on graph paper. I don't think we ever had a commerical version until I had my own kids. This is the first "war game" I ever played.

Dad taught me this too. It came in handy when I was in college (an all too brief experience). Gasoline was $.35 a gallon and cigarettes were $.35 a pack. Winning an $5.00 to $20.00 a week was a real jackpot.

I always remember my parents [;aying Rook with friends and visiting relatives... When I was old enough to play, they taught me how to play... My oldest sister and I (the youngest) are the only two of us five that learned... I won't say that my Dad always won... but he can usually beat me when playing.

This was the farthest my dad ever drifted from card games. Again, he beat the pants off everyone that ever sat at the kitchen table. Now that the 80s edition is out, hmmm....
