I was looking through my collection on the Geek, and was surprised at the number of games I thought were a bit rare, but are actually owned by a large number of BGGers. I also noticed that some games which I thought were fairly common, aren't that widely owned. I got to wondering what rare-ish games people own that they are still digging out and playing fairly regularly. So the question this Geeklist asks is: What is the rarest (least owned by other Geeks) game in your collection that you've played in the past year? And don't go putting down some game that just came out and you picked up at Essen that the rest of us haven't had a chance to get our hands on yet (ok maybe I'm a bit jealous).

Picked up the french verion by Oriflam after several years of trying to track down the original for a reasonable price. A fun game with lots of colour and nice bits. They did a nice enough job that later I picked up their version of Dragon Pass, even though I have the AH version - Why yes, I AM a Geek.
Last played - early spring (late March?)
Number of geeks owning this game - 13

I am listed as the ONLY one to own this game here on the 'Geek!
I play it regularly and wish, wish it was more popular and had a full release.
Anyone can buy cards from their pre-release set from their website.
I am quite fond of this, very rare game.

For some reason this hasn't yet taken off big time despite having LITTLE WOODEN LLAMAS as an essential component. Not OOP yet so you all still have time to order your copies....

Played this a few weeks ago. 12 owners on BGG.

This is "semi-rare" I suppose. I hadn't played it for a great many years, but recently did a couple of solitaire games to pick up some GeekGold that was offered. One of the old AH Bookcase Game series.

Since I don't keep track of (most of) my collection here, there are actually a number of games with 0 owners which I've played this year, in addition to Botts & Balls (for which I'm the only owner listed). Ignoring the ones I won't be playing again next year, prototypes, and new Essen releases (though I'm not sure there are in that category that have 0 owners listed), I see:

Blueprint (2 plays this year; not in the database)
Quadriga (2 plays)
Roller Coaster (2 plays; The 1973 version)
Sextet (2 plays)

Of these, I'd recommend Botts & Balls and Sextet; the others are good enough to play with my sons, but I can't imagine them coming out in my game group.

I play games that not many people on BGG seem to have rather often. I made a list ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi... ) about all my games that I was (then) the only listed owner for. Not all of them are played regularly, probably somewhere around a third and half of them.

As for recent plays, yesterday I played a game of Kvick (Swedish edition of Quick Wit) and two games of Vem vet vad, another Swedish word game that isn't even in the database yet since noone has approved my submission of it, so I can't add that.

While not the rarest game in my collection, I notice that only two other Geeks claim ownership of this. Every four years, with the presidential election, we have the Red, White and Blue party, in which we play politically-themed games and everyone must bring a red, white or blue food (I special ordered R/W/B M&Ms and had a six of Labatts Blue). I brought out all my election games (Candidate, Campaign Trail, Landslide, Road to the White House, etc.), but for some reason the crowd fixated on this. So we launched into it. Ninety minutes later I was begging to stop, and play any of the other games; even then, we were less than half way through it. The game plays like this: to claim the electoral votes for a state, the player must answer two to five (depending on the size of the state's EVs) US history trivia questions. Answering two questions to win Vermont wasnt too bad; but trying to get all of them right for California was nigh impossible, because the last one on the card always seemed to be something that no one present (on either team) knew. So imagine having to get to 270 EV without CA, NY, TX, FL, and so on, and then attempting these big states over and over but missing on the last stupid question. Ugh.

I finally convinced everyone to abandon it, and we played Landslide (the new one), which is a pretty good game, even though I only won two states.

3 owners on BGG, and I don't think the designer sold many copoies before he fled the country, one step ahead of the tax man!
A rather clever combination of bluff, memory, and strategy.

The one and only owner, rater and listed player meeple

The listed play is from I played it again with Daughter the Elder when doing some research when writing the review.

This one is from some of the stuff picked up when Melissa's parents ran a games shop back in the seventies.

It must be rare if there's only one owner for it.

I purchased this from Gonzo104 in November. Played it with my son a couple of times last week. Other than gonzo104, these are the only plays listed.

With the number of views only 240, and users wanting the game 2, I'd say it qualifies as rare.

This is a pretty odd little game that I picked up while staying at an Ashram in the late eighties. Well, I would have been 10 or so, so I guess you would say my parents got it.

Its actually a considerable deal of fun, steeped in buddhist mysticism and yoga, if you can believe it...

Seeing as I'm on the second geek to own it, I plan to lavish its page with reviews and photos one of these days.

I got to play this as a "featured game" with my weekly board game group. For 2008 I have been scheduling a VERY OLD game the fifth Thursday of the month and this was our first one. It gives me a chance to have some very dusty titles hit the table.

I need to add pictures of this game for BGG.

It is well over 100 years old (1893 by McLoughlin Brothers) and for its time plays rather well. Think of it as a very early version of Rail Road Tycoon. Players deliver mail to various locations using the rail routes of the time with the first player to deliver all their packages winning.

A very cool look back to a time that few in society could even afford (if even play) an actual board game.
