Every Sunday night my kids and I get together with some families from church and descend on a friend's house to hang out. The group varies each night but there are usually 12 to 25 people ranging in age from 4 to 40.

Until recently, I had managed to control my addiction. But I felt it growing more and more, straining the edges of control, threatening to burst out into the light. Finally I realized I could not hide it much longer. But, before revealing my inner nature, I would first need to assimilate the unsuspecting group. Oh yes, they will be bgg'ers before they know it. sauron Mwahahahahaha!

It started when I saw a few of the guys playing a game of Risk 2210 one night. Immediately I thought, "So they want to game, huh? Game on!"

The next week I brought this game and #3 and covertly snuck them in. The game of Risk was again in full swing at the kitchen table but I was undaunted.

Knowing how to cast my hook properly, I didn't try to talk anyone into playing. I just set the game up on the bar then fiddled with the figures and waited for someone to take the bait. whistle

I didn't have to wait long. By the end of the game a second person had come over to watch.

As soon as Battleball ended, I quickly whipped out Bang! before the 2 guys could wander away. But we needed one more player and I decided to up the ante. Using every bit of diplomacy and manipulation I could manage, I convinced one of the wives to play...and she enjoyed the game!

By crossing gender lines kiss my pool of potential recruits had just doubled.

I needed something to flashy enough to draw attention but easy to play for the following week. Blokus fit the bill perfectly.

Getting a couple of the 12 year olds to play was easy although coming up with a fourth proved more difficult. Despite how quickly this game plays, by the end we had so many people interested that I had to give up my spot. Six people ended up playing the second game with two 2 person teams, one father/son and one husband/wife.

At that moment, I knew I would eventually be victorious in converting some of them. They were ripe for the picking.

The tour de force: modular board, racing theme, little toy boats, and the opportunity to run your rival into an island. Two games of this easily found the max number of players each time and interest in buying a copy was expressed. But the best was yet to come...

By the end of the night, two different people had asked that simple question not knowing it would lead to them down the rabbit hole to a whole a new world. You know the question, don't you? You asked it yourself once....

"Where do find all these games?"

"Boardgamegeek.com" I calmly replied withholding the triumph from my voice. "I'll email you the link." devil

Besides Pandemic as you already mentioned, this, oh yes. I see you've only rated it a 7, but maybe playing it with the maximum amount of players in a crowded and light environment might help change your mind

As for games you don't have, try them on Shadows over Camelot. That one's sure to be a hit.

As for Settlers... I have never played that and I really really want to some day, I just don't have the group for it, so I can't comment. (My girlfriend and I: only two players - my game group: they play more complex stuff)

Can't really argue with either of the above choices, but I'm going to!

The one area your evil scheme may fall down is if you become too successful, with the potential numbers involved you may end up with too few seats for the number of new converts.

We often have this problem with our Gaming Group which can often swell to the size of 8 - 10 who all want to play together. The game of choice - Perudo (or Liars dice across the pond where they don't speak propper like what I do*).

Perudo is easy to grasp for new, or occassional, players but has enough depth for experienced gamers. Most importantly though most gamers have the components to expand the game for however many people want to play. It doesn't lose any of it's appeal for taking on additional players.

And a great excuse for going out and buying a new game!

* Anyone from across the pond who heard a mockney (aka Dick Van Dyke) voice in their heads whilst reading the above please take the opportunity to realise that this Green and Pleasant Land streaches way beyond the borders of London - Your apology is accepted.

Werewolf can accommodate a large group, involves lots of interaction, and it doesn't actually require anything.

One of my favorite games for converting the heathens is The Adventurers.
It plays up to 6 and everyone is involved on every turn. It's a great use of dice and a theme that always seems to go over well.

Seriously, they started at Risk 2210 and ended at Mississippi Queen? That's a step backwards in my book. If you had dropped Starcraft on the table you'd have had drooling and possibly someone passing out.

In fairness, it probably would have broken the table also.
