I will have to mention the great (though sometimes a little heavy), spicy, original food of my country, Hungary. Just to mention a couple :
- Gulyás leves (often mispronounced g-u-l-a-t-ch)
- Halászlé (delicious fish soup)
- Mákosguba ( great dessert with poppy seeds)
- Zserbo ( a great multi-layered cake with chocolate and marmelade)

These are only a couple of all the great treats that I get to be served when I visit my family---

Who could say no to a slender risotto with mushrooms or mussels,
some special cheese, a nice wine from Toscana, some gelatto and a pizza under a tree in Umbria ?
Talking about italian food, what is your favorite pizza ?

I'm lucky in that my family's quite international. So a favourite meal might look like this:

Venison burgers from Canada, with
Fries/Chips from Holland (don't forget the creamy mayonnaise--which is yellow; not white), and to everyone a steaming bowl of
Sundubuchigae (fiery hot tofu soup) from Korea.
Because I love the red pepper paste, but it doesn't always love me back, I'll cap the meal off with a Mango Lassi from India.
For afters, my Korean family taught me that the best dessert is a huge plate of fresh fruit, sliced and served with little forks for everyone.
If my MIL is around for this feast, she may join me in a glass of whiskey, which my sister sends from Ireland.

Hmm...talking about foof, I must mention some of my beloved fruits ;
The beautiful Mangoe might still be the winner with litchis and mangoustin, south-asian fruits that are pure joy for my taste buds.Or perhaps dates, an unripe banana , nice juicy grapes. And I have to admit that there is no greater pleasure than eating a fig that you just took from somebodies garden after a long walk to the sea...
But, hey, who would say no to an orange, an apple or even a pear ? Blessed mother nature!

Arroz con pollo y gondules. With tostones on the side.

A staple of Puerto Rican cooking and my families comfort food.

It is made by doing the following

1) Cook chicken wings or legs with a small amount of olive oil in a caldera ( an all iron cooking pot but any deep pot will do) until almost completely cooked

2 add Soffrito and or Raccaito (you can buy it premade at most grocery stores in the ethnic food isle or make it yourself but thats much more work), gondules(pigeon peas), mild/medium picante sauce(I prefer Pace) and equal parts water and medium grade rice.

3) Cover and wait until water is absorbed. Under no circumstance should you open the covered pot until at leas 10 min after youve covered.

Tostones:
1) While waiting get unrippened or rippened plaintains depending on if you want sweet or savory and pealing.

2) cutting into 1-2 inch sections deep fry for about 1 min.

3)Take out then use a tostone press or two paper plates squish.

4)Deep fry again until done.

5)Add adobo for seasoning and voila.

You can also make a sauce for the tostones by putting olive oil in a small pot with thinly sliced garlic and basil and then simmering.

The most delicious comfort food you can imagine and very very simple to make.

Since Italy is already listed (Mmmmmm.... braciole, with meatballs and sausages as well, all slow cooked in sugo sauce and served over pasta. Mmmmm....), I'm going with my next favorite: East Indian.

Vegetable Pakoras, spicy butter chicken, a dal, some muter paneer, basmati rice, and, of course, naan bread.

Oh man, I'm hungry now.

My favourite foods also include English-style Chinese Takeaway (I worked in a takeaway back in the UK while I was at school) and roast dinners (especially beef and lamb)....

But Japan provides most of my top ten foods.

I love love love sashimi (basically just a raw slice of something, often served with a crafty dipping sauce).
The best sashimi are tuna, horse, chicken, scallop and king prawn.

I also love sushi.

Also trips to yakiniku are great. Order plates of raw meat to cook in front of you - generally strips of beef or cow tongue are the best.

The other top dining experience is in an izakaya where you can order small plates of meats, soy beans, rice, salads, meats on sticks, meats in sauces, sushi, sashimi, Nagoya-style chicken wings etc like a Japanese version of Tapas. Brilliance.
