I know this was played on Saturday, but I wanted to let the group know we played it. Got together a little after twelve, taught the rules to the three new players, then played until pass 2 am something.

6er
Alex - Thrace
Deniz - Babylon
Hacker - Asia
Ian - Illyria
Paul - Egypt
me - Africa

We gave the three new players the first three picks randomized and the rest to the experience players randomized. Paul took Egypt, Deniz took Babylon(the two easiest civs to play). Alex had the tough choice since theres no clear choice for a third easy civ to play and went with Thrace. Hacker took Asia. I decided to play Africa being one of the hardest to play(first on the AST), which left Ian with Illyria.

Off we went, exponentially populating (for the most part) until it was time to build some cities. After two or three rounds with cities and enough trade goods the trading began. I get hazy here what happen but I remember jumping up with a big buy of Astronomy/Metalworking and some others. Being Africa with no home land(that is cities that weren't on the coast that I could actually protect), I went with min population strategy to defend my cities and pick off others for their trade goods. Hacker then got Military and in response I got it with Paul getting it a turn later. However getting ahead, led to me getting hit with second damage on calamities destroying off my civilization. And Paul and Hacker coming after to me with their more populous nation I was kept down with 2/3 cities for a bit unable to advance on the AST.

Then Ian had 9 cities, but got hit right with Civil War which gave me 3 of his cities and some units to actually start rebuilding my Empire. From here it went on for a bit. There was a point where Deniz jumped ahead until Paul Hacker and me slapped me down to loud moans of "lame". Alex struggle with Thraces starting position to build up a city base and was lagging behind. We let him go for many turn and he built up to 7-9 cities enabling to get back in the game. I remained last on turn order for most of the game and picked off Ian's, Hacker's, and Pauls cities. Paul and I got monotheism and went after Deniz, converting his stuff to ours to more cries of "lame".

After midnight hit and we continue to power through until the end. I ended with Africa which has the lowest score(1600) needed to get to the final spot on the AST. After tallying scores I came out over Ian by a couple hundred points with Paul and Alex close behind. Deniz and Hacker were hit pretty hard at the end trailed off.

As always, it was awesome. I was glad we got more than 4 players allowing more trading and more calamities. Who's up for another? I would like to see how it goes with 7 or 8 and the board getting pretty tight.
