Ahh.. a list for those games that seem particularly vulnerable to the unintentional kingmaking of one player's poor strategy or decision-making. It usually involves some move that is of decent benefit to the player making it but helps the leading player much more.

P.S. - I know a lot of games, if not all, fall into this category, but these ones come immediately to my mind.

Someone inexplicably links the leading player into your previously isolated network, allowing them to coast to victory.

I stopped bringing Pit to work for lunchtime gaming, because of people collecting one card of each commodity, just to break the game.

A lot of people compplain that this game can be broken by one player not understanding the mechanics as well as the other players. I haven't played long enough to see it happen, though.

Played this one last night, and it was spoiled a bit by a player overwhelmed with the choices available to her. This led to all players at the table suggesting things and she picking one at (seemingly) random. I think any empire building game can be ruined if a player doesn't really know what they need to do to win. If you can't form a plan, you are at the mercy of the other players' whims.

I've always enjoyed the *idea* of this game more than the execution mainly because in the seven player game someone is usually ignorant, stupid or spiteful. I was in a PBEM game with someone who got very heated over my "weaseling" into a war that he regarded as a private affair. We were actually allies, but he didn't want to share the spoils of our successful war. I got many a spiteful email pretty much for playing well. Being on the right side of a major war that doesn't end the game by becoming "The Great War" is a key aspect of the game. While I've never faced the kind of abuse this guy leveled at me in any other outings of Pax, there's usually someone who gets bent out of joint over someone else's play. Kind of like Diplomacy...

Player 1 (assassin) I will kill the soldier (looking straight at me).

Player 2 (me) Why did you do that?

Player 1 Because I was able to deduce with my superior reasoning ability that you were the Soldier!

Player 2 (me) But I am in 4th place!

Player 1 So?

player 2 (me) Now there is no one to stop player 3 from winning this turn...

When you lose a big hand because one of the first two calls with something they should get away from, it does wonders to really piss you off. Of course, if you're in a cash game, it's all good, you want to play with the ignorant. When you're in a tournament and you have no more chips after the wrath of the ignorant... well...

This game is one of the all time worst. Just one player can end a game with an exchange such as:

Player 1: Give me $3 billion or I launch the nukes.
Player 2: I don't have it. Will $1billion do?
Player 1: Borrow it.
Player 2: I am maxed out as is!
Player 1: Bombs away!

Or my other favorite:

Player 1: I cant win, so say hello to Nuclear Winter!
Players 2-6: $*#@!!

This game is horribly broken.
