I've decided to go for a multiplayer eurostyle. I decided also the theme, preferring something about merchants in medieval/reinassance times, possibly located towards the northern side of Europe (no mediterrean naval republics (Genoa - Venice and so on), I mean).

Searching around I found those three which got my attention. Haven't played none of them I need geekhelp. Which one do you reccomend/prefer and why? (and please feel free to add more other games about the same theme you think can be worth - isn't that easy to find all hidden treasures on a so huge database!)

thanks

nice the dutch theme but from some comments I argued it seems quite luck-based

I know you wanted to shy away from Genoa and Venice, but this is an outstanding renaissance economic game. The only Venetian theme is the gondola which is merely the turn marker.

The players are responsible for bringing the six different goods to the docks, where you purhase them to deliver to the merchants' guild or sell them to the shops for big profit. Meanwhile, you can buy stock in the shops in response to which goods become available. The goal is to become rich, and whether you do that by fulfilling orders, cornering a goods market, and/or playing the stock market and speculating is up to you and has to be decided in response to what is out there and what the other players are doing.

This is one of the shop boards. Everything that's done in the game affects resource prices, the shop's share price, the demand (orders) for that good, or some combination of the three.

There isn't much direct player interaction, but the strategy revolves entirely around what you expect the others to do and what you can do given the current lay of the board.

It's not for the light gamer, and it'll take two or three games to really get a hang of it, but it really is a phenomenal job, and you'd be doing yourself a disservice by passing it up for the location of the theme. Plus, it's gorgeous, extremely well packaged, and it's cheap (MSRP is only about $30)

Suddenly a shot rang out! A door slammed. The maid screamed. Suddenly a pirate ship appeared on the horizon! While millions of people were starving, the king lived in luxury. Meanwhile, on a small farm in Kansas, a boy was growing up.

It is not universally loved, nor is it best at all player counts [really needs 5 or 6 to shine], but your geeklist title brings it to mind [for obvious reasons] and it's a fairly good choice for what you've asked.

It is like Power Grid stripped of auctions / resource management and brought down to the underlying network connection / route building core of the game, and then limited to 1 action per turn.

Very nice pick up and delivery game. Very nice bits as well.
The drawback is even though a reprint has been announced, there's not as firm date yet and original copies are still not easy to find and even if found may still be on the pricey side.
