Once again, a very nice variety of games on a Thursday game night. Mike and Brian kicked the night off with a Carcassonne game that move the Carc tournament slowly but ever so surely forward. Meanwhile, the room was filled with others playing other games.

More information about the group and a schedule of game nights is available at www.boardgames.meetup.com/495.

We also have a guild on BGG. It is here: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/433

Oh, and we're on facebook, too. La Crosse Board Game Group, look us up.

Here's what we played-------

Rick, Travis, Bill, and Mandi joined together to impersonate rich people and build their estates. This game has certainly been very popular of late. It is a nice blend of mechanisms that doesn't get too heavy or fry your brain. Bill ended the game sooner than the other three expected. His tree based strategy was more than enough to secure victory. This was a first play for Travis.

Brian and Mike finished their "Carc" game (I'm not spelling that word twice) and played a game of Roll Through the Ages until one of the other two games finished. Brian proved the more adept civilization builder in this match.

Oregon finished first so Mike and Brian joined Shawn, Derek, and Amy for a Small World game. The last time I played this with Amy she said that she was beginning to figure it out. I guess that was true. She dominated the four others for a convincing win. Mike, Brian, and Derek all played to about the same score. The world was too small for Shawn.

Bill decided to "win and run" so Travis, Rick, and Mandi were left in the losers bracket. This is essentially an abstract game with stereotypical characters added to give it humanity. The nuances of how to eliminate tiles from your hand is one of the most subtle but important rules in this one. Travis demonstrated his mastery of those rules in a convincing win.
