[POLLS] The Best Fillers - Round 1
- Tony Ackroyd(1000rpm)United Kingdom
But at least this one is about games.
So now we are looking to pick our favourite fillers. I've been on the verge of doing this contest for a couple of years, a few users have even suggested I do it. I actually started down the track on the excellent geeklist Card Fillers You Should Really At Least Try, but that was just card games. So here it finally is.
So what is a filler? The BGG wiki definition is: "A game with very simple rules and an extremely short playing-time. This type of game is frequently used between heavier games."
Other common defintions I've seen are that it plays in under 30 mins (with normal people, not speed freaks who can get Europe Engulfed tied up in 23 mins) and is quick to set up and put away.
So before some smart-ass says "Why bother with this contest? Just do an Advanced search for games rating over 7 that take 30 mins or less." Well I did that to get some of the contenders. Also, where is the fun in that? And how reliable are those times? And are people specifically rating the games as fillers?
I also got the contenders from a few other geeklists about fillers, notably I'll never get enough of..., Fifty quicker games to please any gamer, Favorite Light and Filler Games (arranged by BGG weight), Name your Top Ten Fillers and Card Fillers You Should Really At Least Try.
The voting process is simple. Rate all the fillers you have played and then upgrade a single filler in each bracket from "Awesome" to "Best". I will then calculate the average rating for each game and determine a shortlist for the next poll - probably a Top 100 - and publish another geeklist.
There is also an option to select "Not a Filler" if you don't consider a game as fitting your personal definition of a filler. Games that get a lot of these votes will be removed from the contest.
Warning: there are nearly 400 games in this round. If that freaks you out I suggest you wait till the next round. I've broken them into 20 poll brackets so you don't have to do them all at once.
If you think I've missed a game then please suggest it and it will be added as a wildcard. For ease of checking whether games are present I have included an alphabetical list of them as the first comment on this list.
Dupe-spotters will be awarded 0.01 geekgold per dupe.
