I had missed the last couple Geekways - I knew I regretted it, even though I didn't have a choice, but attending this year reminded me how much I missed.

Thanks to all who made it happen. Here's what I experienced.

Played my first game of Indonesia. Actually, my first Splotter game. Wow! None of the mechanisms were particularly complicated, but the interaction amongst them all is incredible. Often, a lack of full understanding that seeps in over the course of a first game is frustrating. In this case, it was just intriguing and fun.

And, I managed to win, so it must be a great game :-)

I had played this once before - really liked it, but with so many good new games, hadn't gotten back to it. I don't know what the ratio would be called, but this game takes a long time to read and understand the game compared to how easy it is to comprehend once you start playing. In any case, my second playing did nothing but reinforce my like for this one - clean, tense play, without any real chance of dragging on.

I had bought a copy of this not knowing if I'd ever get it on the table. I was glad I had, and I was glad I did. Had a great time playing with Iowa James, and Chad and Richard from KC. Nobody can complain that this game doesn't have a strong theme, or that the mechanics don't reinforce the theme - this is the most deliciously cynical game I can imagine. Literally, He Who Dies With The Most Toys Wins!

We had to feel our way a bit, and there were distractions with the Trade Table and the Crokinole tourney, but everybody really enjoyed it, and Chad won.

Had only played this once before, with 2. Even though I set it up during the busiest part of the con, I only managed to attract one couple. Luckily, they were very enthusiastic, picked it up quickly, and didn't suffer from AP, so we were able to play a fun game in about 2.5 hours.

This one is genuinely part Civ, part El Grande, with a few other interesting mechanics thrown in. Playing with 3 was much better than with 2, but it really whet my appetite for playing with 4 or 5. I've played with my wife, and with a couple, and both women really liked the game, so hopefully it has broad appeal.

So I was sitting there at 8:30 Sunday morning, waiting for my gaming buddy and two others (no names!), who had scheduled a game of Power Struggle for this time slot, but were not showing. While other gamers gathered, wanting to join the game I had set up, we played a game of this fun little card game while we waited.

Fun concept, but need to play a couple more times to avoid embarrassing myself. I sort of had it down by the time the game was over.

The scheduled game never materialized, but luckily Cons like this one are loaded with interested people, so had no problem getting a game going. I had played once, and the other three (KC Chad and Richard, and Indy Adam) had never played.

I really like this one - the mechanics are easier to understand in action than by reading the rule book, and it will definitely take a couple plays to start really understanding how to use the mechanics, but it plays relatively briskly, and everybody enjoyed. I enjoyed only my second win of the weekend, and my last.

Played this one a second time this weekend. Had three of the four players from my Saturday game, including myself, as repeats. The game played both more quickly, and more competitively, with the "experienced" players. This one is wild - I really want to try it with 5 players, but I don't know if different numbers of players will make it better, worse, or will be indifferent.

We had a blast with 4, and Chad won his second one of these games of the weekend. After this one, we listened to the play-and-win drawings, and then I left for the weekend.

I can't wait for 2011's Geekway!
