I know this list is not that timely. First I just wanted to record this one for myself. I have tried 35 of the games published in 2009 by now. Mostly I liked them with only a few exceptions.

The first page of this list is about these games. You can comment why you agree or why you think I'm a stupid to think a game is good when it's terrible.

The second page is about the games I still would like to try. You can tell me why I should avoid them based on the first page or why I should choose one to be the next one I try.

The third page is for your suggestions: If you think there are other games not listed that I should try (published in 2009 according to BGG) based on my opinions in the first page.

The Game of 2009

Telestrations is, hands down, the best game released in the past five years and it happened to be published in '09. It's simple and generates more laughs per minute than any game of movie I have ever witnessed.

Recommended by John Weber, I don't even know why I didn't include this one the first time. I'm definitely interested.

Recommended by John Weber, this one has escaped my radar before but surely looks interesting. Action and resource management game with worker placement - I'm in!

A little bit surprised this isn't on your list. It was one of the things I was really looking forward to getting to try, and I finally got my mitts on it a couple weeks ago. Seems like a nice balance between a euro/war/AT game, with a bit of everything.

Maybe a bit heavy for home with the family though?

Everyone should try this game.

It's an "AT" area control game with some euro-ish elements. Yes, there are dice and plastic figures involved but anyone who lets that put them off is doing themselves a disservice.

Oh NO!!!! Page three? 2 days after this list was generated??!! Where's the love?

This game has seen more play in my group than any game except Innovation, and that's saying something for the group of us that likes to get as much different stuff to the table as we can.

Best way to get your feet wet with Winsome, in my opinion, and you will be hooked. A terrific stock/train/market game with lots of emergent alliances, timing of financial decisions, devilish market behavior, and tremendous replayability. And supposedly it's not only getting reprinted by Eagle, but Winsome is creating an expansion for it during this Essen set's release.

A friend has created a financial moderator program that cuts down on end-game calculations tremendously, and hopefully he will be able to post it, and soon.

Tried long after the geeklist was published: a surprisingly fun trick-taking game (with special actiuons activated when playing the cards and different objectives present during each round) that I didn't even know of until a week ago. One of the stronger offerings of the year.

Another game from 2009 that I learned just now: a nice variation on Take it Easy!
Purists will hate this one (Take it easy is just great because of its simplicity) but it can be a rather interesting brain-burner with the advanced spaceship rules. Of course interaction is still zero.
