I just got back from the first event put on by the Green Mountain Gamers board gaming event and had a blast. I wanted to share the games I played and all others who attended are encouraged to add their experiences as well.

I started with this. A first play for me and was a good start to the day. It took 3 or 4 turns before I got the beginnings of the strategy for it, and I was not really in good position at that point, but made the most of it, and I think because it was my first time playing and one of the players tends to draw attention to himself, Chuck, he was slightly ganged up on, but may be not. I finished 2nd in the 4 player game, and Sara(h) won it

This is a game I've wanted to try for a long time, and glad I did. I got in last minute and was very unlucky with encounters, but had a great time anyway. I was waaaayyyy last place but saw that this is a game where winning is really just the end condition of the game, not really the objective of the game. I can't think of a game made that would be so good for entertaining session report reads.

Another game I've wanted to play for a long time. Heard such great things that I knew it would be good. I was Tzeentch (I need to check spelling) and again it took a while before a strategy could form for me. 2 of the players had played before (Khorne, and Nurgle) and the event cards made it difficult for Khorne to attack (where there was and event) and Slaneesh (no new noble or hero tokens) and they scored poorly, with Khorne getting no turns of his dial the first turn. I guess order prevailed for the time being, as the game ended with all players losing. I liked the game but not that ending with no winner rule. I'll be happy to play again as I think it has good game play.

I was looking for a short game next as my 7 year old daughter (gamer) and 4 year old (non gamer) were going to arrive soon. They were at a birthday party that afternoon. I was still playing when they came. The younger one left with mom (my wife) and the older one stayed to play a game. She helped draw tiles from the bag and was very lucky for all 3 players, unfortunately more lucky for my opponents than she was for me and I finished a very distant last. I liked it and could see playing Thebes with my daughter. I may look into it in the future.

My 7 year old daughter really wanted to play but most people took off for a late dinner. When they returned, we got 2 others to play this with us. I wanted a familiar game after learning so many other new games that I was fried from it, but though she wanted to learn a new game, I figured that it had to either be very short or well known to her since it was getting late, and indeed she faded the last 3 turns or so. I always like this game, and this was no exception. New players need half a game to get the strategy, but it seems that everyone I've met likes it.
