One of the great things about this hobby is even if you dozed off in history class back in the day, there are numerous opportunities to brush up on your knowledge of the past.

I'll share some of the valuable wisdom I have picked up from games -- please add your own!

Did you know that organized agriculture, large-scale quarrying and lumbering, and gold metalurgy all have their origins in the neolithic age? Now you do!

And this one's chock full of great lessons!

Being serious for a moment -- I actually played this with someone once who looked at one of the patches and said, 'Did that really happen?' I had to quickly explain that if he wanted to get a history lesson out of this game, he had to make sure only to pay attention to the cards with the year written in BLACK.
