Some game create fond memories for the players. Other games create rage-filled memories for the players. No matter which game we play nor which memories are made, we all started gaming at some point. Because of this fact, I thought it would be fun to share a little history with each other.

What was the first game you had ever played? Whether it be a more modern game such as Carcassonne, or an old classic like Connect Four....what was it? Did Guess Who keep you guessing? Were you alone growing up, so Solitaire was the only thing you could play?

Let others know as we speed down Memory La., and hope the Nostalgia Police don't catch up.

If you'd like to submit more than one you're more than welcome to.

The first memory I have is playing Uno growing up. It was easy enough and the whole family would play. My brother and I always tried to be mean to the other, so we constantly sat next to each other to accomplish this (he's older by 3 years).

With my parents and some friends. I was probably 6 years old or so, and I was very proud because I managed to get one right.

I still like this game a lot.

I believe the first boardgame I played was my grandparents' copy of Parcheesi, when I was about 4. I might have played some simple cardgame before.

Based on the dates of release, it must be this one--BASH! You stack up the round and square, hard plastic pieces between the head and feet. Then you strike the structure with a pick axe/hammer in an attempt to hurtle one piece out and make the elongated neck one piece shorter (the head falls towards the feet). Meanwhile, the hard plastic is now a projectile, bouncing off the cinder block walls of the basement and hurting all the other kids in the room. Great fun.

The other option was Poppin Hoppies, which was much tamer, so we could play it in the living room. The idea of this game was to place a bunch of spring-loaded suction cups on a plastic mat
and wait patiently (and anxiously) until one or more released and flew into the air. Then all kids jump up and try to catch it. Kinda like a foul ball at a baseball game.

The first game I remember playing is Payday. I loved it back then. It had great illustrations and dice.
I know it's a roll and move with no decisions, but I still have a soft spot for Payday.

I have a few lingering memories of playing this when I was a little kid. Didn't even know it was a game at first--or what a game was. But at some point, my mother tried to explain it to me. Whether I ever actually played it as a game, I'm not sure. It was over fifty years ago.

The first game I definitely remember playing as a game is the children's card game War. That and Slapjack, both taught to me by neighborhood kids. I remember we played outdoors, next to a big tree in my front yard. I probably played other children's games with my mother before that, but my memory fails me there.

As to the first game that got me thinking a little about "strategy and tactics," I guess it'd be Rummy or Checkers.

Finally, if we're talking about the first game by a game publisher, I guess I'll name Careers. There were various other board games around the house at the same time, but this is the one we kept coming back to--and I still own it and will play it.

My first game experience that I remember is playing this game with my Mom. I played games here and there throughout my childhood and growing up. I rarely went very long without playing one type of game or another. So I guess I've been inclined to be a gamer my entire life.

When I was about 9 years old, one of the kids in the church I was going to set up a RISK game, since everyone's parents were staying late for some special event. I was instantly drawn by the plastic soldiers. whistle But unfortunately, my parents came to get me as soon as we'd finished setting up

Fortunately, my 5th grade teacher had a copy of the game, and I ended up playing it every chance I got in school. At the end of the school year, seeing how much I liked it, my teacher just gave it to me as a gift.

My mom was all about "Kings in the Corner" and Yahtzee.

My earliest memory of playing either is circa 1985/6. The "Kings..." we played was black/red/black or red/black/red, though I know of some people who insist on playing same color on same color. Very little strategy in either of the games, but excellent memories with mom!

My mom gettin' all worked up over Yahtzee is a sight to behold. She gets daaaaaaamn excited when she's on a roll (no pun intended).

*She also trained me in the mystical art of blowing into the dice cup, which we know makes all the random swirling numbers stop on the things we need*

Probably just as half of the community, my first board game was Monopoly, the classic. Used to play it a lot when I was a child, now i've evolved to more subtle board game-life forms.
