(I'm sure this has been done before, but let's go 'round again.)

If you're here, you're clearly pretty dedicated to boardgaming. But I'm sure you have other hobbies. Tell us about what you do with your spare time when you're not boardgaming! Let's see pictures if you've got 'em!

I like to crochet. Started a few years back, and something about it just clicked with me. Here's a pic of a recent project -- a yoga mat carrier made on request for my sister's birthday last year.

One of my favorite moments was the time when I was working on something at a coffee shop and some kid walked by and said to his mom, in an amazed tone, "I thought only girls could do that!"

BMX Flatland Freestyle (as the picture shows) is the main one, except when thwe snow falls then it turns to computer stuff, programming, MUD-ing, watching movies, etc.

My wife has been Geocaching as of late and has dragged me all over the area doing that, so I could throw down "driving" as a hobby too.

I enjoy playing and programming keyboards and synthesizers. I like collecting old vintage analogue synths of the 70's and 80's. Analogue sounds better than all this digital rubbish nowadays (though digital does have its advantages too). It is very interesting how one can create sounds from a raw waveform, eventually shaping it into something completely different. I also love reading and playing boardgames....oh wait a minute. I despise TV (aside from a few guilty pleasures here and there), though I do like movies.

I have a chronic problem of having way too many interests for the amount of time I have to devote to them. I've been trying to prune the number every now and then, but often that just means that I pick up something else. There is just too much interesting stuff in the world!

Currently I read, do various creative writing projects, try to expand my knowledge and understanding of classical music, run RPGs, do some home gardening (my potatoes are looking very promising!), read about mathematics (not going to study mathematics in the university when I had the chance is currently my biggest regret in life, so I can't really study it or read proper mathematical papers, but I try to explore the wonderful world by reading about it) and play some computer games - especially World of Warcraft as it's a way to spend some quality time with my wife.

And of course watch football! Both major varieties, in fact.

But the hobby I identify myself the most and want to improve a lot currently is photography. I got myself Nikon D90 and few different lenses about 1,5 years ago and find the whole process very captivating and interesting. The amount of stuff there is to learn can be somewhat intimidating at times, though.

You can find a collection of my own favorites from Flickr (the gallery hasn't been updated for couple months, as life's been just too busy for a while): http://www.flickr.com/photos/hiljainenmies/sets/721576174981...

LEGO for me. Specifically building my own designs, usually on the fly. Though this is more an off-and-on hobby lately as there's plenty of other things I do that this contends with, including of course board-gaming. Fortunately making LEGO creations and board games are not mutually exclusive and I've made a lot of board game components that complement certain games.

While it's hard to encourage people to take up LEGO as a serious hobby (it's possibly more expensive than board games if you're comparably fanatic about it), I do encourage enthusiasts of both to use your LEGO skills to enhance the board game experience by making dice towers and component holders and the like.

Some of the more popular LEGO creations I made for Arkham Horror:

Since taking retirement on health grounds a couple of months ago I haven't had time to do much! But when life settles down again I will be back to writing and walking. First novel, featuring everyone's favourite outlaw having the mother of all midlife crises, is finally complete. I'm doing the obligatory trudge round agents at the moment, considerably more in hope than expectation. It was unbelievably fun to write despite being dark in tone and I now know ridiculous amounts about a very small period of European history.

Also tending the menagerie. I hope to have my first hive next year when we've moved house.

Don't know anything about this game, incidentally, but I like the box art a lot. RH games tend to have rather murky green/brown cluttered box covers.

And I've lost forty pounds since I started. I don't eat much of what I make, most of the time.

Here is one hobby that I haven't posted about here on BGG: Cowboy action shooting. It's a timed shooting competition with scenarios based mostly on scenes from western movies. Competitors must wear period style clothing and shoot with period style firearms. A typical scenario will involve shooting with sixguns, rifle and shotgun, engaging different targets at each shooting station.

This is a picture of me at the 2003 New Hampshire State Championship. Having already emptied my revolvers out the back window of the outhouse, I'm shooting my double-barreled 12 gauge shotgun through the fence at some more bad guy targets.

I play clawhammer-style banjo. I became interested when I saw a neighbor sitting on her front porch tinkering on hers. At the time, I thought the only style of banjo-playing was bluegrass. So I did an internet search for banjo teachers in my area and found Adam Hurt who teaches clawhammer style. I was intrigued by the name, so I called him up and scheduled a lesson. This was about a year and a half ago and I've been really enjoying it. I haven't learned many songs, but I've become really good at the ones I know. I'm the one sitting on the porch playing now. Some of the songs I've learned are:

Jack Wilson
Old Joe Clark
West Virginia Gals
Mississippi Sawyer
Sandy River Belle
Sail Away Ladies
Fortune
Barlow Knife

I spend much of my non-gaming time maintaining my web site, The H. P. Lovecraft Archive. Although I got the HPLovecraft.com domain in early 1998, the site started out a couple of years before that as "Donovan K. Loucks' H. P. Lovecraft Page". The original page was created one frenzied weekend when I decided that I needed to add my own entry to the "encyclopedia" that I saw the World Wide Web as.

Much of the site is currently hand-coded, but I'm working on a bibliographic database that will eventually drive many of the pages. (I'm retired now but used to be a web developer specializing in database design.) I currently have around 20 new pages in the works, including a Lovecraft photo gallery, a chronology of Lovecraft's life, and an index to all 107 issues of Crypt of Cthulhu.

In addition, my area of specialty in Lovecraft studies is the geography of Lovecraft's life and fiction. I've tracked down and/or visited nearly 1,000 points of interest that Lovecraft mentions in his fiction and letters. I'm cataloging all these points of interest in a comprehensive book on the subject -- though that project has actually now grown to four books.

Because of my specialty in Lovecraftian geography, I also assist Lovecraft scholars S.T. Joshi and David E. Schultz with their work. I've proofread and provided notes to several of their books and have been credited in about ten books as a result. S.T.'s two-volume biography of Lovecraft (I Am Providence) is due out soon from Hippocampus Press, and I was responsible for assembling the photo section for it, including several location photos that I took myself.

And all this barely scratches the surface -- I have a Lovecraft-related to-do-list that's dozens of items long. Thank goodness I'm retired, because my hobby is a full-time job!

I swap my board game addiction for my Geocaching addiction. Load up my GPS with coordinates for boxes hidden across the world, travel to the location as best I can, search for the hidden trove, sign the logbook inside, and swap a treasure... usually some McToy or other cast off. Lately, I've been leaving small magnet versions of games, or picking up card games out of them.

There's just something about the search and the find.

Just a few of my non-boardgame hobbies:

1) League bowling - I've been in the same Wednesday night league for over 25 years. My average? 185.
2) Reading - my wife and I like to read and we're always reading something. I just finished a Stephen King book (Blockade Billy / Morality) and I'm currently reading Clive Cussler's latest Isaac Bell book (The Spy). I also have a subscription to WWII History and the History Channel magazine. Favorite author? Stephen King.
3) Music - I have over 700 CDs in my collection and I listen to most of them. Mostly classic rock, I also listen to contemporary jazz, pop, R&B, classical music, instrumental rock, and novelty. My favorite? The Doors.
4) Boy Scouts - my two sons are in a Boy Scout troop and I'm an assistant Scoutmaster. Our troop tries to camp out once a month.
5) Collections - I have small collections of U.S. coins and stamps, diecast metal cars, plastic model aircraft and cars, movies/shows on DVD and VHS, and books on sports, music, military equipment/vehicles, and cars. Favorite car? The Ford Mustang. I've owned six of them.
6) Internet - oh yeah, I'm here on BGG nearly every day and I also like surfing the net for whatever interests me at the moment.

I play trombone in a community orchestra.

Currently we are working on Bruckner's 7th Symphony, Mahler's 1st, and the overture to Mozart's Magic Flute.

Nothing sharpens (or cripples) the mind so well as counting a 150 bar rest and successfully (or not) coming in with the right note at the right place...

My OTHER major activity is being a volunteer science explainer at my local branch of NASA's Deep Space Network at Tidbinbilla, Australia. You can enjoy my 3D photo of DSS-43 (70 metre dish) better if you cross your eyes:

I take great pleasure in discussing the wilder parts of cosmology with visitors and seriously hurting their brains... laugh

Since the 8th grade my favorite sports activity and hobby has been running ...mainly because I was too scrawny and had no hand-to-eye coordination to play other sports! I've qualified for and ran in the Boston Marathon several times and have a PR of 2:49:10 set at the Chicago Marathon at age 46.
