I was pleased to get a game with some new (to me) faces tonight, and we even had a friendly visitor from Charlotte, NC to explain the rules of this game, which I've been curious to try for a while now.

When I first saw it I was put off a little buy the theme (something about goblins and dwarves and orcs puts me off. Vampires and Zombies are fine though), but the game itself sounded interesting, and lo and behold it was! Still don't think I'll buy it, mainly because of the amount of things you need to remember about the different races and powers, but I would definitely play this again, so I'm happy my brother bought it recently

I kind of went a bit off-theme tonight. OK completely off-theme, but hey I played good games and had a lot of fun!

Maori is one of my favourite games on Yucata.de, and is fast becoming one of my favourite games full stop. I bought this tonight and opened it straight away - managed two quick 3-player games (basic & Atol), won one lost one. Just as good offline as on

This wasn't what I had been planning to play tonight, but there was a seat spare when I turned up and it was on-theme so what the hell. I'm not sure it can really be called a game - I spent three hours without making much approaching a meaningful decision - but we still had a hell of a lot of fun. Got to love Paul's ensorcelled, wounded, crippled, grief-stricken Aladdin finally limping to the win.

This was high on my wishlist as it's one of the highest-rated Knizias I hadn't played. It took about three-quarters of the game to vaguely figure out what I might be trying to do, and all five of us (none had played before) felt a bit bemused. If it wasn't Knizia, I'd probably never play it again, but it is, so I'm pretty sure there are hidden depths waiting to be discovered.

Played a 5 player game with Gabe, Daniel, Nick and Jeff(Geoff?). We used the Interactive Deck which was a first for most of us. Several parasitical cards which benefitted the owner from the actions of others.
Played a lot of Agricola when it first came out but have played little in the last 18 motnhs so it was good to play it again.

For the second week on the trot, I played Age of Industry. This time a three player on the New England map which we raced through in less than 90 minutes.

Yellow went for a coal / iron production strategy (convinced despite several previous attempts that this was a winner, and determined once again to give it a shot!). Yellow built out trains from the coal motherload in the top left hand corner of the map, fueling building with a couple of on/off loans topped up by money from the market due to control of the coal and iron supplies. They were blocked out of some of the crucial places on the board and resorted to developing away then overbuilding on the coal for cash / cheap trains.

I as Red built ports, mills and factories, with a few trains for links, and a single boat and not a single coal or iron source. With a bit of luck I managed to pull off 2 double shipments of 44 and 66 goal (though not in the same turn).

Blue, concentrated on ships, but also got down mills and factories, using mainly others ports and the ship markets to ship goods and a foothold in the coal for a source of fuel and breaking Yellow's monopoly.

The game wasn't as tight as 4 players but we filled the board and were starting to overbuild, when the game ended following 2 double draws which finished the deck ending the game as Yellow was out of cards.

Tallying the scores it was clear it was going to be close - While Yellow was some way behind, Blue and Red were neck and neck on money/trains and counting the points on the board, it was a dead heat.

We all knew the tie breaker rule so eyes turned straight to the turn order... Blue was ahead, and took the game. Final scores B:47, R:47, Y:38 (?)
