One of my favourite game theme is exploration, and I really can´t get enough of games based mainly on you as an explorer discovering new land or hunting down treasures from the past. Luck is a natural part of these games, without it there would be no point in gaming. There should still be some planning involved and room for tactical moves. The best part; different games every time you start a new setting, and also the tension/excitement tends to naturally build up towards the end of a session.

What a brilliant design, although not family fare. The game sticks very closely to its theme, one of the best looking games there is. Downtime ?, just deal with it with an egg timer, stop watch or simply a warning before start, I´ve never had any problems of the kind. Rating: 10

If Tikal is not for the family, then Expedition is. Very simple rules, plays fast and can still be quite competitive. Since we are spoiled with good components, I would prefer wooden parts instead of plastic, but thats just me. Rating: 9

A lot of W. Kramer here, but the guy most love the theme. Again just look at the components! More bias to the racing aspect, but treasure hunting is so fun. Fiddly ?, how can this be more fiddly than Tikal or Puerto Rico. Rating: 9

Yeah, I know, Kramer again. This is a cerebral game, not family fare. But it is very satisfying winning, or making good moves in this game. Very good components as usual. Rating: 9

A bit more involved than Entdecker, and IMO better. Sticks very close to the theme, looks beutiful, plays fairly fast, lots to think about during your travel. Can be played by families as well. Rating: 9

One of the best looking games there is, plays fast, more involving and exciting towards the end. Brilliant family game of the same reasons. Rating: 8

Simple and fast, great looking card game for two. Nearly addictive, but due to its short playing time you seldom get tired of it. A fantastic filler for two. Rating: 8

Simpler than "Die neuen Ent.", but very good for families. I´ve played it with my eldest daughter (7) and my mother (64), and they loved it. Rating: 8

Theme pasted on, but it looks good, plays fast, and if you like bidding as game mechanic, it is one of the best games in its genre. Rating: 8
