OK, one time Randy Beaman had to take baths with his brother. So one time his little brother took a potty in the bathtub .....and now Randy Beaman gets to take showers alone. 'K, bye.

So a few weeks ago I hosted an auction in which you could select from a list how I would spend a portion of the money I made.

The end result was option A - take the Mrs. out to a fancy schmancy dinner.

Well, the money's been collected and all packages shipped so it was time to wine and dine Jen. As promised in the auction, here is the proof that your selection was actually performed!

So we're off. We were planning to enjoy steak flambe at La Boheme, a French Continental restaurant, unfortunately, we learned a little too late (upon arriving) that they aren't open on Sundays.

A quick discussion and google search (thanks to our droids) led us to choose Il Forno (The Baker), a nearby family owned restaurant that has been on our 'to try' list.

Note - not to be confused with Il Fornaio (The Oven) in Sacramento.

Just as important as the food is the wine. Rather than pay $6-$8 per glass, we figure the $10-$15 corkage fee is worth the price to bring a bottle we really enjoy.

Tonight's choice - Young's 2007 Barbera from our local Amador County.

Sidenote - Napa may get all the attention for wineries in Cali, but don't underestimate the great varietals offered in the Sacramento valley. Not to mention, Amador doesn't charge for the tasting.....yet!

What to eat? What to eat?

After learning their special, grilled halibut on red pepper mashed potatoes, I knew what I was ordering. Jen was considering the butternut squash ravioli or the chicken parmesan. Ultimately the ravioli won. But to begin, we agreed on the filet w/ roasted potatoes starter (pictured here). The sauce covering the filet was excellent - a portobello/zinfandel reduction.

We debated desserts. Jen was not leaving without trying their creme brule. Since I'm not a fan, I gave the tiramisu a go. Neither of us were displeased.

To end the evening, Jen agreed to show her appreciation to you fellow geeks by thanking all the 'wonderful' bidders.....not to mention the newly available closet space.
