So, this is a list in which I'll try and jot down a few words about a game, after I've tried it. You know, a kind of like initial impressions kind of deal.

People are welcome to comment, or add their own initial impressions, if anyone should feel like it. If not, fine by me - I made the list for me

I had my first playthrough of this yesterday.
I've only ever tried one train game other than this, and that's Age of Steam. That might make me spoiled, I don't know. Anyways, the word "Monopoly" kept flying over the table, when discussing the game. It was fun to try it - but I'll probably not want to try it again anytime soon.

Data:
Played at: The Proggie Guild
Played when: September 15th, 2010
# of players: 6 (max in this game)
Game completed: We didn't play the game to the end, as we could see we were nowhere near $200.000 and wouldn't get there for hours. We added a Sudden Death rule, which stepped in after approx. 4 hours.
Placing: I won the game with our houseruled end conditions.
Likelyhood to play again: Not likely

Forgot to add this when we actually played it. Whoopsy!

Anyways, about the game. I love coop games (as so many other people tend to do right now) and I love the theme of Space Hulk (though I've never tried it ), so this was a must-play for me. So, when my friend David bought it, I forced him to bring it along. And what a great little game! It has enough options that each choice is meaningful, and enough of a chance to win, that you actually want to try it again.

I think this is my favourite coop game, so far. Even though Forbidden Island is a VERY close second (especially with the new tile variants)

So, David bought this game off of e-bay.

I like the mechanic of travelling down (or - for one character - up) in this dungeon, trying to gather treasure and beat up martian beastmen. I didn't really care that much for the Victorians in Outer Space theme, but it was OK - didn't get in the way of the game. Most of the players around the table didn't have THAT much fun with the game (probably because their Major Goal was removed rather quickly), and we had a rule wrong.

With a couple of House Rules, this game could be fun.

Data:
Played at: David's
Played when: October 9th, 2010
# of players: 6
Game completed: Yup!
Placing: I think I came in third? Maybe...didn't win, at least
Likelyhood to play again: I can be talked into it, with a few houserules

After having tried this, I understand why the game is such a hit. It's a really fun little game, but has enough of a screwage factor that I enjoyed it. I find that I really enjoy the train games, but still - this is nowhere near as good a game as Age of Steam. Might be almost equally fun, though.

First Impression: Only a hyped up version of Othello. I played 3 people who are used to playing it, and won the first time which only added to my disappointment. I believed the game to be too simple. cry

Second Impression: I went a week without thinking about the game, but played it again at our next boardgame night. Got last place out of 3 people. Still wasn't interested in the game.

AND THEN SUDDENLY, just 2 days ago, I started thinking about it again. I read some of what people were saying about it, and suddenly noticed there was more substance to the game than I gave it credit for. Now, I can't wait to play it again to try out some strategy that's going through my head.

So, I was at a convention (Viking Con) this weekend, and that means new games galore. The first new game I tried was A Game of Thrones. As I love the books, I had been looking forwad to the game, even though I do not enjoy wargames.
I had a good time, which was unfortunately cut short as one player sneaked up behind the rest of us in round three, gaining city #6, and (being as how he had first player) we could not stop him from taking another at the start of round seven.
The game is a fun little mix of a wargame and a eurogame, with a little too heavy emphasis on the wargame part (for me at least). I did enjoy myself though.

Played at: Viking Con
Played when: October 15th, 2010

Game completed: Yup!
Placing: Lost.
Likelyhood to play again: Can be pursuaded, but not first priority

Seeing as how I love Last Night on Earth, this was a no-brainer for me. I really enjoyed the game, and all the new additions to the LNoE engine (more tactics for the "evil" player and fire, being the two main additions).

We decided to try this game late at night, while waiting for some players to finish a Stone Age tournament. This game i quite boring, and reminds me a lot of Munchkin, in that it's completely random, and that the game will keep changing back and forth wth regards to who's the winner.

We were getting up to a lot of players, so we thought that robo Rally was a great idea. We started to set up the game, and played two rounds, when our food got delivered.
The game in itself is very chaotic but very fun. I will most def play this again, if I ever get the chance.

We were trying to find soemthing to play, so David took this from the Ludoteque. David has this game on his shelves, but weve never tried it before.
I had heard that this game was like Battlestar Galactica, but in Camelot, so my hopes were very high. I got a little disappointed at first, but BSG is one of the very best games I've ever tried. Once I thought of this game in and of itself, instead of thinking of BSG while playing it, I actually had fun. It's a bit simple, and I'm having difficulty seeing how the traitor will be having as much fun as a Cylon in BSG, but I will play this game again with a smile on my face.

Data:
Played at: Viking Con
Played when: October 17th, 2010
# of players: 5
Game completed: Yup
Placing: Not at the top of my list, but with the correct number of players, it can hit the table, and I won't object.

We had entered a tourney for this game, which none of us new anything about, except for the fact that it was made by the same guy as Galaxy Trucker and Dungeon Lords, two games which we like a lot, and that it is a coop game.
We played three rounds.
Our team died in the two training-rounds, but we survived almost with no damage to our spaceship, when we played the frst "real" mision. We were the only people in the tourney who survived the mission, so we won the tourney (and a diploma and a yellow "winner" shirt).
While I had great fun while playing this game, with loads of laughs, this is most likely not a game I'll try again anytime soon. It was wellcrafted, but the stress-factor is simply too much for me. I'm not a fan of games, in which the game is actively trying to punish me, like this one.

Data:
Played at: Viking Con
Played when: October 17th, 2010
# of players: 5
Game completed: Yeah - three rounds
Placing: See above
Likelyhood to play again: As a tourney, no doubt.

My fiancé found this game while at the con, and thought the illustrations where the cutest thing she'd ever seen - and since it was on sale, she had to buy it.
I did not have that high expectations for this, as it was a Steve Jackson game, and the only one I've ever tried of his games is Munchkin, which is a game that can go on forever...
Anyways, was I surprised. This game is actually very fun. Even though you can steal cards from the other players, you have to give them cards while doing so, so you don't make people fall behind while doing so.
I really enjoyed the game, and I'm looking very forward to trying it again.

As our friend Alexander had bought this expansion for his favourite game, we decided to leave the con, and go play this expansion at David's.
I completely understand the buzz this has been getting...this expansion is fantastic! The cards are great, and the game is... bigger. Does that make sense?
This is the first and only expansion for Dominion, I'd be interested in.
