ENGLISH Welcome to my game collection geeklist. As you will notice this is a very short list. Compared with other fellow users my collection seems shamely small... Its limit is just 12 games. But beware! some time ago I had more than one hundred games. Mostly unplayed, some of them played just once or twice and many others that I did not really like that much. For many of these games I did not even know the rules and after some time thinking about it I realised I just had way too many boxes at home. Thus, I decided to sell most of my games and keep just the ones I really loved in order to make some room in my place. Also, in 2012 I played a power Magic the Gathering cube first time in my lifetime and I inmediatly felt in love with the drafting system and started playing MTG most of my spare time. This geeklist was first created back in 2010 with around 50 games. At that time fifty games seemed quite ok cause I had a lot more of spare time to play boardgames than today (no kids in my life). From 2014 to 2017 I lived in the US (Austin, TX) with almost no time for gaming and then came the birth of my two kids, Enzo (October 8th 2016) and Eira (January 7th 2018). For this reasons I do not need 100 games any longer. Another reason for such a small collection is that I am not a frequent player, I play every Tuesday and sometimes in the weekend, but most of the time I just play one or two games weekly, therefore I am not craving for many new games since I just don´t have enough time for new rulebooks and stuff, I prefer to play the games I know and I am now very picky when I play new designs. There are many games I do love but has no room in this list. Things such The Republic of Rome, Advanced Civilization or all the 18xx series for example are games I would rate with a 9 at least, but they are too long and some of my friends have copies of them, so I just decided to play with these copies when needed and make space in my collection for other games that I play more oftenly. Althought I don´t care about the theme and narrative in a game I am really wanting to keep games with a high replayability value, which is an important feature since my collection is so small. I also want a good variability relating the number of players necessary to enjoy each game. Most of the time I play with just 2 or 3 players games, but sometimes we are more and games for 4 and 5 players counts are necessary.

ENG A fantastic dexterity game, Crokinole works perfectly with all kind of players, no matter if they are casual gamers, eurogamers or ameritrashers. It also fits perfectly in family gatherings or parties. You usually start playing it as a filler for just a few minutes, but it is very normal to begin a single game of Crokinole and end up playing it for two hours or more. As happens with most dexterity games it is very easy to explain but also very addictive. So far, I had teached the game to more than twenty five people and nobody really disliked it. Some of them were newbies that had never played a boardgame before and they really enjoyed it and even asked promptly were to buy a board. It also works wonderfuly as a family game for both kids and adults. I couldn´t recomend it more, being its only drawback that it is an expensive item and very hard to find out of Canada or Central Europe. Including shipping, it could cost around two hundred euros in case you pick a quality item. If you happen to know a skilled cabinetmaker you could ask him to build one for you but the wood quality must be real good if you want it to be durable so it's gonna be expensive anyway. There are a few cheap options like Mayfair or Ferti boards that are not bad but I strongly recommend better boards like the canadian or hungarian crafted ones. My board is one of the latter and it costed 180 euros including the stones and shipping, there is a spanish company that offers a wide range of crokinole boards imported from Hungary, with several different woods and all with a superb quality. It is expensive for sure, but it seems it will last for ever cause is extremelly sturdy and well made. It worths its price hands down since this is just my favourite game ever and the most valuable piece of my collection (it works even as a decorative item hanged in my home corridor).

ENG A long time ago I was introduced in the world of Magic and liked it quite a lot, but decided to not buy any set of this game because it was very expensive to get many of the best cards and I knew I could be trapped in the collectors market, expending tons of money. After some time I decided to give it a try using the newly fashioned cube draft system. A cube is formed by singletons of several hundred cards that are designed to be drafted among many players, but the format also supports just two players. The result is fantastic because the deck is gonna be different each game you play and only a minor part of the cards that are included in the cube are used in a any given session unless you join eight or ten people around the table. Another thing I do love about this system is that you can design the cube and adapt it to your own tastes: Pauper or Peasant cubes for the low budgets (just common or common and uncommon cards) or the fanciest and most expensives cards ever published with even a Black Lotus or an Ancient Recall if you have a huge ammount of money to spend in your Powered Cube. Cube drafting is doable in other games such as Android Netrunner or Star Wars Destiny but seems to be tailored for Magic the Gathering and I even believe that there is no better wa to play Magic than cubing, even constructed is less appealing in my humble opinion. My cube runs 384 powered cards, a proper number for two to eight players matches and hypercube drafts, but it is normally played by just two or four players, six at most. This is the link to my cube in the Cube Tutor Web Page, please feel free to comment it and suggest aditions or cutable cards and draft it whenever you want to.

ENG A very good combat game. At first sight I thought it was not my taste with all these counters and chits (I also had quite a lot of troubles with the LOS rules) but thanks to users Arracataflan and Borat who teached me trough the nouances and peculiarities of the system in just one afternoon, now I understand it and I really like it. I cant wait to play it more. I love many things in this game, like the hand management, the shift of situations, the existence of chaos and luck and tactics in just a perfect blend... all in all a true gem, and with all the expansions available a game that can last for years before getting repetitive. I got many of the expansions for the european line as well as Pacific (with all the stuff I have right now I can play it for years without getting tired of it). Components are just ok for the eurogamer but good compared to the standard wargame. Its first main expansion, intented to be sold as a single game but splitted since it would be insanley expensive, was Combat Commander Mediterranean. Italian, french and british armies, new scenarios, new maps and some new weapons. Excelent expansion with three new army decks. The random scenario generator is top nocht and provides endless fun for years to come. The other three expansions packs which I also own, Paratroopers, Stalingrad and Normandy, add an almost infinite amount of replayability to the base game. I also own New Guinea expansion set for the Pacific version which, being a good game, I consider a bit less funny than its european iteration.

Board Game: Combat Commander: Battle Pack #2 – Stalingrad

ENG Command and Colors Napoleonics is the only wargame I own although it is a gateway one. Not being a lover of heavy and long wargames I always wanted to have at least one or two decent light wargames. After many years playing various designs, my election was CCN. I do like Command and Colors system quite a bit, it is easy to grasp, fast and the bits are nice looking. Epic battles are long but you have more tactical ad strategic options. If you don't have that much time you still can play a shorter but really good normal game. I played both Ancients and Napoleonics. I think that Napoleonics is a tad better, but probably it is just a very personal thing, since I prefer the stronger range combat in the Napoleonic series than the close combat slaughters that take place in Ancients and Medieval. But the three games are trully fine. It is a fantastic design as long as your are not looking for a very realistic thing, since the use of dice and several other aspectss of the system make out of this game a very enjoyable thing but not a realistic representation of the napoleonic combats. I use to limit the red tactics deck since some of the cards are overpowered in my humble opinion. Multiplayer epic games are trully enjoyable but I still prefer to play the game with just two people, including the epic two players games which is right now my favourite way of playing CCN. As I was looking for something fast and funny, and I am no grognard at all, this is my choice as a light wargame. Also I passed on the modern iterations of the game such Memoir 44, The Great War or Battlecry since I prefer other systems to depict these theaters (MBT, Panzer, Combat Commander...).

Expansions:
Board Game: Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #1 – The Spanish Army
Board Game: Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #2 – The Russian Army
Board Game: Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #3 – The Austrian Army
Board Game: Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #4 – The Prussian Army
Board Game: Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #5 – Generals, Marshals, Tacticians
Board Game: Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #6 – EPIC Napoleonics

ENG Hands down this is the best 2 and 3 players eurogame I had ever played. Chess becomes an eurogame, althought in the 3 players game there is a lot more of spice since the control the players have is reduced with the adition of a third player. This is not a problem at all. Two and three players games feel different but both are absolutely brilliant and rewarding. The chaos is introduced with a fourth and a fifth player in such a way that I will just play another game with this number of people although is still pretty playable and enjoyable if the players are fast and have some experience in order to avoid very long games or kingmaking situations. As a matter of fact, one of the last games I played was a five players one with four newbies but all of them had no ap issues and it was played in around 2 hours and was a very nice experience with a lot of nasty provost interactions. The game is a master design, every single worker placement counts and when played with skilled people the smallest mistake could mean the loss for you. Provost mechanics add a lot of interaction among players, something that I do like a lot. After these years I have yet to play any other eurogame that works that perfectly with two and three people. There are very good games with this number as Agricola or Race for the Galaxy but Caylus is a small step of excellence over them and a huge ladder over the rest. For some people this unforgiveness will be a problem drawback, but for me and my group it is one of its best qualities. Top game, can´t say anything bad against it besides its scalability. Own the Deluxe version which I do love, although some people has problems with its darkness I find it really beautiful and evocative. Final score is a 9+ with two or three people and a 8+ with four or five (if the group is fast enough, otherwise if there are AP prone players I won´t play it with more than three persons).

ENG A wonderful system that mixes one of the best auction mechanics in the market with a bunch of interesting and difficult decissions in the actions phase. Just a masterpiece. Its new version (Steam) is also a great game, more forgiving, but I prefer the old version over it because it is more demanding for the gamers. Expansions add replayability to this excellent Wallace design and the very new Deluxe edition, which is the one I own, comes with plenty of them suitable for two to six players: Rust Belt, Eastern and Western USA, France, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Barbados, Sant Lucia and Hungary are the maps I backed and own. This is a hard and demanding game that I have been enjoying for many years and I will keep on doing for sure since given the maps availability and the game mechanics the replayability is almost endless.

Board Game: Brass: Birmingham

ENG Brass Lancashire was already a hit back in 2008 when I first played it, an amazing eurogame designed for the euro hardcore players and not for the casual gamers and the faint of spirit. However it is not really dificult to teach (although the rules are somewhat fiddly and easy to forget) but it is normal that in their first games the players have no clue about the best options to take, and usually they feel overwhelmed by the game. The game has its openings and is really easy to know if a player is a skilled one or not just because of his/her first plays on the board. Although it only has one map, Lancashire version has a lot of replayability, something I can assure you since I had played more than one hundred games in my life, this being the third most played game in my records only after Magic the Gathering and Android Netrunner. In my book, this is along with Age of Steam and Struggle of Empires one of the best three of Martin Wallace´s designs and this is saying a lot. An excellent game that works perfectly with three to four players and has also a very good variant for two players sessions. I also own the deluxe version of Brass Birmingham which was published in 2018 but I had played it just once. I hope to play it more as soon as possible, and will update this entry when done but so far the experience was as good as Lancashire. The Birmingham game has little nice tweaks that I loved like the variability in the openings due to the random market chits, but lacks a bit of the cutthroat nature of its older brother. Anyway I rate both designs with a solid 9+. Both versions, Lancashire and Birmingham, are likely the same core game mechanics with two maps and a few yet substancial tweaks, thus I will keep just one entry for the two games.

Board Game: Food Chain Magnate: The Ketchup Mechanism & Other Ideas

Being a lover of economical games it seemed that FCM was tailor made for me. This is an outstanding design that could be even higher in my list and may be it will end up in a higher position with more plays. I still have not played the expansion, but just the core game gives me so many options and so many different approachs that I am completely sure this game is gonna stay in my collection for ever. The interaction is cutthorat and superb, the game is gonna kill the newbies brains and this is one of the only two grips I have with it since some new players give up after a first bad experience in which they are just crashed by the more experienced players. The other grip is the lack of openings, it seems that the game is somewhat driven in the first turns but after that it opens as a fan and therefore I dont find this problem a big drawback. Also, the expansion seems to adress the lack of opening options and in such case this game will very likely climb positions and will end up in the top five which is something amazing for me. I also love the art which is very evocative of fifties in the US may be the maps tiles are a bit bland and boring but it is a minor issue. The game has a lot of replayanbility, even more with the expansion variants, and is very scalable for two to four people. I have to try it with five and six and I am eager to play it with such number if there are no AP prone players. Lastly I use special poker chips (Iron Clays) instead of the paper money and I really recomend you to do such a thing.

This is just one of the best games I had ever played, and very likely it would be even higher in the list, but it is hard for me to find people to play it frequently and given its playing time and the fact that it is an AP prone game I get serious troubles to play it more than a couple of times yearly. Being a over of games like El Grande and the area control mechanic, this is the best implementation of majorities I had ever seen in a boardgame. Some people has a problem with its chaos and lack of control but I do like it and I think the chaos is somewhat manageable when you know how to play and which cards are you gonna get during the game (there are only 25 cards and therefore is not impossible to know what to expect in the upcoming turns). Anyway it is undeniable that the game is not for the people that want to control every single aspect of the gameplay, something you can do in other designs as Caylus with two players, but as a matter of fact this is something I really love of this wonderful gem. That´s also the reason I do love Trickerion or other games I dont own but I enjoy playing as Wallenstein or Study in Emerald. The way you manage chaos, the way you try not to do the perfect turn but to do the optimal turn with the situation you face at any given moment is something I really enjoy and find fantastic and engaging. A sort of a light wargame disguised as an eurogame, this is my second worker placement favourite game ever, it works really well with anything from 3 to 6 players as long as they dont have AP issues (if they do I would not play with more than four). However, being playable with 2 I have many other games better with this count.

Board Game: Agricola: Farmers of the Moor
9+
Inmediately below Age of Steam and Caylus, my third favourite ever eurogame is Rosemberg´s masterpiece: Agricola. It was the game that really introduced me in the new boardgames world back in late 2007. I used to play many old fashiones games such the old Avalon Hill masterpieces or even some wargames but when I discovered a copy of this game in december 2007 was when I really became interested in gaming as a hobby. Agricola was a blast since the very first moment and it still is. The thing I like the most about Agricola (and dont like in games as Caverna) is its tension, the needing of feeding your people: the harvests and the craving for food, something I do love but make the game uncomfortably tense for other people. I like the ilustrations, I love the wooden pieces of the revised edition and some crafted sets with new animeeples and vegimeeples. I oen a Revised Edition that has two drawbacks: first is only suitabe for up to four players (which I don´t really care since I like Agricola mostly with two to four people) and also it has a lack of cards that were included in the original Lookout version. The latter is not an issue anymore since there are three new published decks: Artifex, Bubulcus and Corbariust that bost the game with a lot of replayability. Another expansion I own is Farmers of the Moor which really adds a lot of things to the game and is fully loaded with replayability, new cards and new problems for the players. But the core game is good enough and the expansion is not something you really need unless you had played Agricola to death. In any case, a solid 9+ and a game I will recommend to every single eurogamer.

Game #1
I played Innovation for first time back in 2010 and in took me almost ten long years to really aknowleged the huge quality of this design, that is very subtle and deep and therefore is easy to be fooled with its somewhat inherent chaos and to not see the forest for the trees: the reality is that, being a chaotical game, the best player will almost always beat the less experienced one and that at the same time the amount of raplayability and variability that this game offers is humangous. The core game is enoguh to enjoy it for many years, but its four expansions offer some little tweaks that can be overtaken once you control the core one by heart. There are four expansions to the base game in the Deluxe Innovation Box. Echoes of the Past is pretty straightforward and offers some new card and a new easy mechanic: foreshadow. Figures in the Sand is a bit more complex, with some catch up mechanisms and a few overpowered cards, is the expansion I had played the least. Cities of Destiny is on the other hand the simplest one, very easy to include in your games. Last but not least, Artifacts of History seems to offer a bunch of really powered cards and seems to be pretty exciting but I had not played it more than a couple of times. All these expansions offer a lot of options to your Innovation games: more than five hundred cards are available what makes this game differernt every time you play it. Only caveat, this is a two players game, playable with three, dont ever think about playing it with more people, just go and find another game.

ENG My choice of a monster game, since I only own around twenty games I just don´t want to have any of them sleeping on my shelves due to being difficult to play or too long, but TI4 is such a good game that even playing it once or twice yearly it deserves a place at home. Twilight Imperium is without any kind of doubt my favourite long game among the ones (many) that I had ever played, even over games such Advanced Civilization, Dune or Republic of Rome that I enjoyed a lot during the nineties. Twilight Imperium has some eurogame feeling that I really like such the victory points rules and the main actions selection system (Puerto Rico style). for some people this is a problem, but for me it upgrades the old school a la Avalon Hill systems with thousands of excepcions and minirules that draged out some games way beyond I am able to cope with nowadays. The rules are no really difficult and the game is pretty straighforward without any AP prone issues and it is not very fiddle given its playing time and complexity. The way player interaction works is superb: the fact is that it has the perfect mixture of wargame, diplomacy and technological development made me feel in love with it back in its third iteration and this fourth version seems to work exactly on the things I really like: more straighforwardness, being faster and easier to grasp than any other monster game I know with less housekeeping and ironing some fiddle corners the game had in its previous editions. As I said before, one ot two plays of this gem yearly are enough for me to make its purchase worthy (although I would prefer to play it in a weekly basis of course). I will prefer to play it with a full compliment of six peoples, but five players is also superb and I found four playable and very enjoyable. I always try to use the galaxy drafting when possible (not with newbies). Well, such a fantastic game, I only wish I would have more time and people to play with...

Games #3
and #4
This entry is both for Baseball Highlights and Football Highlights and eventually for every new game in the series. So far we got two games, Baseball (BH) and Football (FH). BH is the best new game I had played in 2019 period. An underdog with many expansions and a very easy gameplay that offers the players one of the best, if not the best, sport experiences in the market. BH is based on deck building while FH is based od drafting. The games are pretty diferent to each other and while BH is the best of the bunch I think that FH is also a vert good game (I would rate BH with a 9+ and FH with a 8+ therefore the average would be a 9). Both systems are intelligent, easy to grasp and fast to play and reward good gameplay which is the most important thing and also a very remarkable one given its short playtime and easyness. BH is the easisest one, playable even if you dont now baseball rules, but would be more enjoyable for the people knowing how tha american pastime works. FH has one little nuance and this is drafting, since to grasp a drafting game you need many plays and we don´t use to do that nowadays with so many games in our shelves. Both games also offer the possibility of playing championships that are really funny and dont take a lot of time. I would recomend BH hands down and FH only after trying it since is more obscure at first and uses to let the people more lukewarm than its brother but I have to say that the more I play FH the more I like it. Can´t wait for another game in the series: soccer? ice hockey?...

Puerto Rico is the game that has been established as number 1 in the BGG for the most time. A very innovative design it introduced the use of rols and after almost twenty years is still in the top50 what means something to take in account. In my humble experience this game is still a must in any serious collection. It is true that has aged a bit and that has some kingmaking issues, but in any case the final result is outstanding. The quality of the components are below average, in the classic Alea way, but I own the Anniversary Edition that has been deluxified and is a joy to watch and see, what solves one of the very few drawbacks of this fantastic game. This game also includes the expansions (nobles and buildings) but I had never played any of them (the core game is good enough and does not need any expansions to shine). Game works with three to five people and it has a variant for two players that I had never tried. Its rules are quite easy to grasp and the gameplay flows nicely. Puerto Rico has several paths to victory and I dont feel it scripted at all. It is one of the top ever euro games, such Caylus, Age of Steam, Agricola or Power Grid, an absolutely true gem that is sometimes forgotten by the new players bacause of its age and its subopar components but I do recommend yo, reader, to try it at least once with open mind, and enjoy it, since you will probably discover a fanstaxstic game, a still fresh design that can be enjoyed today as it was enojoyed almost twenty years ago. we are now in the era of super deluxe kickstarters and 200$ games, but let me tell you something, one last time, this game is better than 99% of them... and way cheaper.
